Guest 0784expert Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 Hi all this is my first posting so i hope you may be able to help. I have an 03 2ltr hdi c8 which i have had no problems with until recently when the tempeture gauge seemed to develope a mind of it,s own Basically the gauge will jump straight up to 130c and the stop warning light comes on in the middle of the dash this can happen from coldand whilst driving along and it happens there appears to a slight loss of power too, it almost seems like there is a loose connection somewhere i have checked the wiring to the tempetue gauge sender unit but all seems to be ok, the gauge will jump around from normal tempeture to max at least a dozen times then seems to settle down Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this? as it,s driving me mad Quote
Guest Jellybean Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 I don’t know the answer!!!, But you might have a break in the insulation in the wire going to the sender and it is shorting out on the chassis/engine. This might make the gauge behave erratically especially when the engine is cold as it tends to vibrate more before it has fully warmed up, hence why it might settle down once you drive. Finding the cracked insulation might not be easy though.Either that or the temperature sender might be on the way out – leaky earth.I might be totally wrong here, but it’s worth a try....... Quote
0784expert Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Hi All finally got this sorted when i had the car serviced, turned out to be a faulty temp sender unit cost £6.00 to sort out the gauge no longer jumps around. a simple fix by a local garage especially after it had been to a citroen main dealer for a service previously so much for main dealers. Johndouglas Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 My opinion of main dealers is low to middling - but be fair. Putting right a temperature sender fault isn't part of a service. Best you could hope for would be a report on the service sheet. But thank you for coming back and telling us about the solution. It's a fairly common fault reported on the forum. Quote
