Guest Thomas Hoifors Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 I love Citroen!!! Edit: OK, that worked! How come I can't post in the tech dept of the ZX forums? :oOk, I give up. I'll just post my first message here! :) ----------------------------------------------------------- This is my first post on these forums ever! So welcome me! I am an avid Citroen-fan and we've had Citroens (GSA, CXs, BX, ZX, C5) in my family for decades! I currently drive a 2002 C5 "estate" and I love it! But now it's time to fix my first car ever... The ZX!!! And... HELP!!! After storing my ZX for 2 years without plates, it needs the following to get its approval for use here in the EU: * Discs and brakes front (350 GBP)* Braketubes (250 GBP)* Lightbulbs front/back plus calibration (100 GBP) That's a lot of money. The car itself isn't worth more than 500 GBP, listprice, due to its 250.000 KILOMETERS rolled. However, I love my ZX and I want to keep it. My main question would be: Can I change any of these things on my own? I have a very bad health and cannot lift heavy things (like wheels) so I feel my options are very limited. Can I tell my neighbor to change discs and brakes front for example? Best Regards,Thomas in Norway Quote
Johndouglas Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Hi Thomas - and welcome to the forum. The three jobs you outline on your ZX are all easy jobs well within the capabilities of average DIY. I've just done discs and pads on my C5 and that was straight forward. Whether or not you have the 'know how' or the capability health wise, only you will know that. I don't know whether parts are much more expensive in Norway but in UK I would expect to pay around 60GBP for discs and pads and maybe 40GBP for flexible hoses. Have a look at https://secure.gsfcarparts.com/shop/ Thanks for your reply! :) Are these the biggest and best Citroen forums in the world? Just wondering! :) Well I just ordered discs (40 BP) and pads (20 BP) online, and as you can see, they were CHEAP!!! (Same price as in the UK!) :) I recon I can change them myself.. Do I have to watch out for asbestos while changing them? The prices above include work done by the local garage. The Citroen prices at the local Citroen dealer, are even higher! Add 35%-45% to those prices! Norway is SO expensive it's almost a JOKE! Seriously. The new C5 starts at 33.000 BP over here. The 1.6 L diesel. :) The top of the range Vg C5 is 82.000 BP! :D I don't dare changing the hoses however. I hear you must "air out" the brakes while doing so? I've never done anything with a car except change tires, and refill oil! :) And that's it. So I'm pretty basic. If I only had my health (Secondary Hypopituitary) I'd LIVE under my cars! :o I love my 2002 model C5 tho... It has been running for the past 2 years I've owned it, without ONE issue! :D Good, good car! Quote
Johndouglas Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Do I have to watch out for asbestos No asbestos - but there is plenty of brake dust around the calipers which is best not breathed in. Quote
