Johndouglas Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 its been diagnosed as the alternator, Who by?Does the car start OK with a full battery or a jump start? There's a range of different alternators fitted to Xantias. It's important that the replacement matches the original. Also there's a range of prices depending on whether the unit is brand new or reconditioned. Best - if you can - is to get the old one off and take it to GSF or ECP to match it. Quote
Guest krash Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 my bad turns out its the starter motor not the alternator Quote
Johndouglas Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 my bad turns out its the starter motor not the alternator  In that case - there's checking to be done first - because it may not need a new starter motor. Is the battery fully charged?Check the battery terminals.Check the earthing strap.Make sure the terminals on the starter are clean and tight. Can you hear the solenoid clicking.Does the starter turn over at all? Johndouglas Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 As I said previously, it's best to take the old unit to match against the new. There are two different sizes fitted. One at 65mm dia. The other 70mm. Besides they may sell on a part exchange basis. Quote
