Hi, I am new to this site so hopefully I am in the right place for my problem.

I have a berlingo van 1.9D on a 54 plate. The damn thing will only ever idle at just under 1100rpm, It will idle at this speed all day whether on cold or warm start up, and even after a good run. It never changes.

I am slowly getting fed up with the high revs when sat in traffic and at lights. Can anybody help with what it is??

I have tried playing with the idle speed screw and turned it so it sat at around 900rpm. The only problem then was it decided to sit at that 900rpm even on start up (thats if it started) so I had to tweak it back up to 1100rpm again.

I NEED HELP.

Thanks

Do you have a fast idle thermostatic sensor set into the thermostat housing? It will have a cable running from it to your fuel pump.

Not sure. Will have to try and have a look in the next couple of days and let you know. I assume you have a thought that might help me.

If you do have a thermostatic sensor, its job when the engine is cold is to pull the arm into the fast idle position. As the coolant hots up the sensor opens and allows the fast idle arm to return to its normal position. If you have one, yours may have broken in the fast position.
