StephenM Posted April 14, 2003 Posted April 14, 2003 Although it initialy seemed OK, my new 1.6 (110bhp) Berlingo is a bit thirsty - 280 miles on a tank of fuel! Is this due to the engine being new, should this figure improve as the miles increase. This is my first brand new car, as such I have been light on the accelerator, keeping it below 3000 revs and my driving is a real average of motorway, a bit of town and B roads. Other than that its excellent. Quote
clanixion Posted April 14, 2003 Posted April 14, 2003 I know this is no use whatsoever but I've got a 2.0 HDI and I get roughly between 400-500 miles per tank depending on how hard I clog it on the motorways. Stick to 70-75 and it sips the diesel, puch it to over 80 and it gets a bit thirsty. Like you I do a fair mix of roads but I don't think I could live with 280 miles from a tank of unleaded :) Quote
ACHUKA Posted April 15, 2003 Posted April 15, 2003 I'm very happy with what I appear to getting from my 1.9D Multispace, but then I've only driven 500 miles... i'm always a bit paranoid about running the tank dry anyway, so the value of x miles on a full tank is always hard to determine accurately.... but I do know that fuel economy improves with age - whether that's especially true of petrol engines I'm not sure... I love my Multispace more and more each day! Quote
Albert Posted April 18, 2003 Posted April 18, 2003 Stephen When you say a tank full how much fual are you putting in? If you are refilling when the light comes on, thats between 9 or 10 gallons which will give you a figure between 29 to 31 mpg. I think that is about average for a new tight petrol engine. Clanixion My HDI has the same mpg as you, works out at about 43mpg. Take your point about the thirst at high speed, I drove from Alicanti to Estartit last year at speed with the aircon on and burnt diesel at the silly rate of 27mpg!:) I have found the HDI and the 19D are identical MPG. StephenM Posted April 22, 2003 Author Posted April 22, 2003 Filled up again - got approx 340miles from a tank - seemed to be driving it a bit lighter when my first fill was at 280miles! I assume a petrol engine wont loosen up that quickley? but I am now fairly happy with the MPG - it seems very similar to my old Nissan Primera 1.6 16v which had 12bhp less than the Multispace. I drive on a real mix of fast mways, rush hour, B roads - only had the car a week last Tuesday and I am at 1050miles!!! I would have benifited from the HDI for the milage I do but would have to have waited until July! - I ordered the 1.6 in February and had to wait a month and a half as it was. I am about to fit a 10 disc multichanger - dealer says most aftermarket versions will fit - I will check with Citroen if Blaupunkt is among them before I buy a lead. Quote
clanixion Posted April 24, 2003 Posted April 24, 2003 Checked my mileage yesterday. Filled up and set the trip meter. At half empty, the trip meter was showing 300 miles. I am assuming that the bottom half of the tank will empty quicker but I would guess that around 500 miles per tank would be reasonable. Quote
Albert Posted April 24, 2003 Posted April 24, 2003 Sound about the same as mine. I work on 500 per tank. Quote
Trigg Posted May 29, 2003 Posted May 29, 2003 Just back from holiday down south with my 1.9d Multispace . Did 900 miles and averaged 48mpg between motorway (70mph), country and town roads. Now done 3000miles in total and can feel the engine revving a bit easier. Wonder if the consumption will get any better or is it now at it's peak? Quote
tronboy Posted July 31, 2004 Posted July 31, 2004 Best I've ever got out of my HDi is 670 miles from 55 litres (practically the whole tank) That's about 55mpg. Normally I reckon on 500 miles out of 50 litres, so about 45mpg. I usually have the aircon on or sunroof open, so fuel consumption will suffer in any case. I reckon on shortish trips, the 1.9D is marginally better than the HDi due to the fact that the engine reaches optimum operating temperature quicker. The HDi can run cold for ages, especially in the winter. Generally, the HDi is only about 2-3 mpg better overall than the 1.9D, but performance is better. I reckon if you could live with the smoky emissions, the old 1.9TD engine as used in the ZX etc would have been a cracker in the Berlingo, but Citroen never fitted it. Trigg can expect an improvement in mpg until about 10,000 miles, so he's doing well! Quote
