Guest Ian Harding Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 Hi All, I wonder if anyone can help. I bought a 2000 plate diesel with 167k with a bottom pully that had destroyed itself, hence there was a burning smell, lack of power and alternator light on. I replaced the pully and it seemed ok for about 50 miles, then it broke a rocker on no 3 cyl, replaced it, did 15 miles and broke the new rocker. The hydraulic tappet was replaced with another new rocker, but now it starts fine, no smoke, but at above 2500 revs a tappet gets very noisy and it misfires, take your foot off the throttle and it quickly goes back to a smooth tickover. Any Ideas before I give up and scrap it would be most appreciated. Thanks Ian Quote
Johndouglas Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 I would check the timing. Make sure that the cam pulley timing hole lines up with the flywheel hole. It's not unknown for the cambelt to jump a tooth when the bottom pulley lets go. The pump doesn't need timing. Could be the reason for tappet to break. Quote
