Hello all, I'm new member and I have a problem with my C5 2.0 HDI 52 plate

when starting from cold tick over is very rough and when I pull off its a bit erratic, once it has warmed up, after a short distance its ok

but it sounds a lot noisier than it normally does, if I rev it when stood it whines at high revs, everything was ok until I started Monday morning

does anyone have any ideas on what it might be? Many thanks Baz

What grade of oil have you got in. And where do you get your fuel from. Only going down these lines as the weather only turned cold from monday

I think the oil is 5/40 semi synthetic, its funny you should ask about fuel, I got it from asda on Sunday, it was ok up until then

supermarket fuels are cheap because they bulk them up with silicone which isnt good for your engine. Try filling it up with shell v power and a tin of injector cleaner we use fortes just out of choice. see if that makes it any better and get back to us

Okay will try that first, do you know how long it takes to run normal if it works? thanks for your time to answer my questions, Baz

Depends on how much fuel youve got in your tank. Idealy you should fill it to the top

Its just above the quarter mark, where is the best place to find the fortes cleaner?

Any motorists discount store or halfords

Put some good diesel in and cleaner and it sounds a lot better already, having a oil and filter change tomorrow with fuel filter and air filter so hopefully it will be back to normal. Thanks coastline taxis.

Make sure youi put a good oil in. We use magnetec again out of choice. but definatley not 5w/30 or 40 as its way to thin

Ive put Magnetec in 10/40, is that ok or would you recommend something different

Thats a fine choice. Your engine should be quieter now

Sorry Ive took so long to get back to you on this, had problems starting the car, turned out all 4 glow plugs went down at the same time, it still was'nt running 100% but I put some shell v power in last week and it is now running a lot better, so I would recommend shell diesel to anyone, thankyou all for your input
