Guest 1200bmer Posted November 12, 2010 Posted November 12, 2010 Hi all Some advise would be appareciated on the following. Just aquired this C5 2.2 HDI exclusive se auto. Car has done 67,000 miles and is a tidy car has leather and all the toys although not all work at present. Going to either sort out issues or just sell car in to maybe a Citroen C5 fan. I would like to keep it as I use to have Citorens some years back and Im still a fan. 1. Sat nav display in the central binacle doesnt light at all totally black. Also not sure what other info would show up here that I could be missing. Any thoughts on what to do to try to see what the issue is? 2. Car runs great but after a while the engine management light and the esc light come on and sometimes it will go into limp mode. Im guessing it needs a new pdf filter which I could do myself as I have access to a ramp etc. I dont see any warnings about the ouylis fluid being low but where does that warning come up? Central binacle. Thats obveously completely blank. Also if I fit the pdf filter will the car recognise automatically thats its all clean now and that all now ok? Does the ems need restiing. Can I just take the pdf of and jet wash it to see if that works. I would prefer to sort all this out but if its going to be too much hassle I will just sell the car on as is. Any help would ne appreeciated especially help with any body local ish to Milton Keynes that I could get the diagnostics read as appossed to booking into main dealer and getting ripped. ThanksGraham Quote

Also not sure what other info would show up here that I could be missing. Any thoughts on what to do to try to see what the issue is? My first guess would be a blown back light as it's an LCD. Look very closely at it to see if there is the tiniest hint of any display. If there is but incredibly dim, it's a back light issue. The display shows general radio info, Sat nav and trip computer. 2. Car runs great but after a while the engine management light and the esc light come on and sometimes it will go into limp mode. Newer cards can be read by a £30 pod IIRC. It could be the DPF, or maybe the swirl control valve, these tend to break on early 2.2 and are no too hard to fix with a replacement part. I dont see any warnings about the ouylis fluid being low but where does that warning come up? Central binacle. Thats obveously completely blank. Yes, you can access last diagnostic message via the trip computer screen, but that is no good to you. Also if I fit the pdf filter will the car recognise automatically thats its all clean now and that all now ok? Does the ems need restiing. Can I just take the pdf of and jet wash it to see if that works. Normally when the DPF is replaced the Eolys needs to be topped up and the ECU reset. If the DPF is blocked it's likely that Eolys is low or run out. However, seeing as you are not getting the warning all the time I will suggest you either get the codes read or check the swirl control valve. Also, you could read some of the posts here about regenerating the DPF by driving. Quote
Guest Sloppy Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 Hi all, This may throw the spanner in the works for the people with DPF filters, my 2.2 Hdi auto C5 has done 146,000+ miles on its original filter, (Eloys topped up once) no plans to change filter yet. Yes I have had it go into limp home mode twice in the last 50,000 miles or so, but I have found if you do as it says in the hand book - drive steady at above 40 mph (I think it is 40) untill the light goes out all should be fine - and it has been so far touch wood!! I also have a 'tuning black box' fitted - theory behind it is that a diesel does not need a lot of fuel to run, so this box drops the fuel rail pressure resulting in less fuel being delivered at cruising speeds, I get on a run 50 mpg.
