Guest clam Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 Hi Guys. Now this cold weather has started I've been having a problem starting my C5.The battery is about 3 years old sounds to labour when turning over but eventually starts discarding blue smoke from the exhaust.Could it be the glow plugs or something simpler like a tired battery? Is there a simple test for the glow plugs and are they easy to fit?The light on the display panel for the glow plugs is working ok. Cheers clam. Quote
Johndouglas Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 On HDI engines glowplugs aren't needed unless the temperature follows below minus, so I doubt that is your problem. Read the voltage of your battery, first when you switch off and then again after 12 hours or so. Battery should still read 12.7 approx. My C5 developed a similar problem to yours. Lexia diagnosed that the starter wasn't turning fast enough to give the correct pressure from cold. A new motor was required. Quote
Guest clam Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 Thanks John. I will try that, but I noticed today the warning light on the dash wasn't on for the glow plugs, could it be a fuse or some relay. Cheers. clam. Quote
