Are they supposed to open on all models?

I think all C5 estates came with the opening rear window and usually it's the first facility that breaks down. Trouble usually starts by the random unlocking of the window when the drivers door is opened or closed. There is a 'blow by blow' repair given on this forum and also on the Yahoo C5 site. Use the 'search' button. Since I've never used the opening window, when mine gave trouble, I just disconnected the solenoid.

It should spring open by squeezing the button below the rear wiper spindle.

When i bought my c5 the window would not open. the window normally opens by pressing the rubber button under the lug below the wiper. if this does not work. water has got into the switch.to access the switch there is a tiny hole underneath the assy it releases the cover.a nut which holds the wiper on is exposed. you have to scrap the wiper arm as it is forced on(ali boss) and not splined. under the arm is another nut that will remove the switch assy. a replacement is not cheap and you need to by another wiper arm. you could try wd40, it might cure. it didn't work for me. as the switch was jammed up inside. p.s. a puller will not lift the wiper arm it is only plastic and it will snap. good luck. gary

The operating button is under the rear wiper arm. however not many work. Mine had the rear screen replaced twice under warranty and it now doesn't work again.
