Guest sabooth Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 I am in desperate need of help and advice. I have had from new a 2005 C8, now with 45000 miles. Yesterday the car developed a knocking noise from front driver’s side of the engine (the dreaded cambelt area). On hearing this I went to the computer for advice and guidance.I know a little premature but, having read all the other posts about cambelts, I cannot help but think ‘cambelt issues’.I spoke to an independent mechanic with many years Citroen experience and he (without hearing the noise) told me of the cambelt issues with C8s. His advice was to call Citroen for advice on the noise and cambelt failure, hoping they would want to deal with it under warranty or recall.I spoke to Citroen and explained the problem and my fears and the many forums on this matter. Behold!! They have never heard of C8s having such a problem and told me I shouldn’t believe everything I read on the internet. I believe the car companies and garages alike hate the new found knowledge that we mere mortal can now access. Anyhow, the independent mechanic is looking at the car in the next few days to assess the noise and I will take it from there.Does anyone have any advice on cambelt problems and how to deal with Citroen?Steve Quote
Johndouglas Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 Normally on PSA HDI engines the cambelts are long lasting and reliable. My own C5 is now on 72000 and still on the original belt. I have the new kit in the boot ready to replace in the warmer weather. But in the C8 and its Peugeot and Fiat equivalents, there is a problem which the companies know about. The problem arises from rain water running off the windscreen and entering the cambelt casing causing the belt to quickly wear and in many cases prematurely break. They have in fact designed a modification which supposedly diverts the water away from the belt. Get it looked at quickly. Quote

They definitely have heard about this! http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/index.php?showtopic=6817 Quote
