Guest avants2turbo Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 my sisters got a problem with her xantia td, its a 1997 1.9td sx and it was being driven up to norfolk from london last weekend, and as the car was getting hotter it was getting more and more undrivable, the car just simply wouldnt rev, seems to get worse the hotter it gets, it was driven back and same symptoms as it heats up! my brother in law took a look at it last night, and the only thing he could see that was a little odd was the hand priming pump in the engine bay was collapsed like it had a vacume on it (with the car running or not) which leads me to think it may be a fuel delivery problem? he did check all the boost pipes etc for leaks and there was nothing apparent, not being ofey with the xantia i was wondering if there are any common failiers on the fuel systems that would/could cause this symptoms? Johndouglas Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 The hand primer shouldn't be collapsed. With the engine switched off, after two or three squeezes the bulb should be solid. Sounds as though the fuel system is being starved. Check the vent pipe to the fuel tank. Maybe also the fuel pickup is sitting in a load of sediment. Quote
