How do. My dad has a '03 citreon xsara 1600. fair play its been good up until the last month or so. Latest problem: Battery light came on, he took it to a garage and they diagnosed battery fault so put a new battery on. This knocked the light off up until the last few days. He now gets an intermittent battery light popping up. I've jumped in it put everything on electrical wise, so radio, heaters on full, side lights full beam, fogs, wipers on full, rear wiper, cig lighter, heated screen, air con etc and light didn't come up at all. even with a rev of the engine no light appeared. had a quick check over the connections and they seem fine.

Any ideas on what it could be would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks

The battery light should go out as soon as the engine starts. 1. make sure all the connections are secure and clean. 2. Check that the alternator drive belt is not slipping. 3. Get the alternator looked at.

Thanks for the reply.

He took it to the local garage just now where he had the battery fitted. the battery light was on, and they checked the alternator and it was outputting 14.xx volts. he cant remember the exact figure but it was 14 odd volts. now the mechanic suggested it was overcharging.

This was with everything on like i had commented in the first post. wipers etc.

so, i think im gonna end up check the connections.

Thanks again.

another update. i went up and had a look. charging at 14.2v. chucked it on the diagnostics and obviously found nothing. took the belt off, belt was fine. spun the alternator, no play init at all. However theres a squeak coming from the alternator itself. Followed the wiring and found nothing obvious. checkd the connections all good.

gonna do the alternator tomorrow. see how we get off with that.

Thanks.
