Guest JohnN Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Morning, I purchased a replacement rear wiper motor as it had gone, however when I go to replace it I notice that its attached to the car not by bolts but by something that looks like a domed rivet end with a hole and three small slots. Can anyone advise how I can undo these? Thanks John Quote
Johndouglas Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 Do the heads you're looking at have a 6 pointed star shape in the centre? If so you need a torx driver of the right size. Quote

Nah, that would have been too easy :) - literally it looks like a domed rivet to with a hole in the middle and three slots off it - I've never seen anything like it before! Quote
Johndouglas Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 See what you mean. Just looked in Haynes and at the start of the section it says you need a new rivet kit. Later it says to drill out the old ones. Any reason why you shouldn't use small nuts and bolts. Quote

Solved that one easily enough by fixing the window permanently shut and buying a Berlingo instead!!! Quote

Still I'd like to know how to get the darn thing out. Maybe these "rivets" have magical healing properties - although it would have been nice if it had fixed itself before I forked out for the part :) Quote

You have just jogged my memory and again on aforementioned 306, the rear wiper motor packed in and had to be replaced by a suitable donor from the "scrappy", seem to remember that was an intermittant fault so at least you are half prepared with a new unit if yours goes inop again, think I would prepare myself further by getting some suitable length, correct diameter pop-rivets and a good drill bit to suit!!!
