Prop Shaft Bearing

Hi, I'm new to this so apologies if I do anything wrong.

I have a 52 plate Xsara 2.0 tdi with 67,000 on the clock. Recently noticed a whine when driving, local garage diagnosed this as "prop shaft bearing". They said that they have never known this to go on this model of car before, but that you cannot obtain the bearings as a stand alone part, you have to buy the full shaft. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks Annette

Not sure on the mechanics of your vehicle but for sure I would get a second opinion just to ensure somebody is not trying to rip you off, may be genuine but don't know.

Definately get a second opinion. A 'prop shaft' is usually associated with rear wheel drive cars. Yours is a front wheel drive and each wheel has its own drive shaft. You need to know from which side the whine is coming. Both sides don't normally go at the same time.

Normally get a knocking noise on cornering with worn drive shafts, could it be a wheel bearing?

What is this release bearing the other contributor is referring to, generally those are found on clutch assemblies???
