Fuel/engine Additives?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm thinking of adding both, one for the fuel and the other in the engine.I'm going to oil and filter change this week, and was thinking that they might help, but running through my mind with all the sensors that it may mess things up.Ive got the "unblock diesel filter" message appearing.Adding the above is not intended to fix message but help with better running of car.

Really appreciate your help.

Hi,

The Unblock Filter message means that your FAP (in the exhaust) is building up deposits. You need to run it at 3000 rpm continuously for at least 5 minutes; I think when I did it I drove down a section of motorway at 70 mph in fourth and have not had the message since. If your driving is mainly around town or you drive gently for economy, this will occur. I try and include a couple of good accelerations each week when overtaking; you need to get the engine revs over 2750 rpm to engage the swirl valves, this should give a full airflow.

As regards additives, I have used Redex Diesel since buying my 03 plate 2.2 HDi 3 years ago. I have used Redex Petrol all my life; it keeps valve seats clean and hence cooler and also keeps piston rings free; it cleans carburettors and injectors. Incidentally, last year I tried using BP Ultimate, the engine was immediately quiter, gave more power and mpg. Due to the cost, I tend to fill up with this about every fourth fill up.

Best wishes,

Wow  , thanks for that.I have been very light on the pedal for fuel economy, still in the "new car syndrome" mode. Will give the car a good run tomorrow.

Tool station sells both engine and fuel additives, £2.28 for engine flush(350 mls) and £2.79 for the diesel injector flush(8p more than petrol equivalent??)this is 325 ml bottle. The brand is called "Silver Hour",worth a try.

Personally, I wouldn't bother about engine additives. Use a good quality engine oil with an oil & filter change at between 6 & 10thou miles. Fuel additives - yes - I use Millers Sports4. Giving an extra dose in the weeks before MOT, I find all four cars sail through the emissions test.

I shall just do the fuel additive. Twas searching around for a good deal on oil, when my partner piped up and said that she had a brand new unopened "big" bottle of Castrol GTX sitting under her desk at work! yay, well sorted :D and now my partner wants to get a Xsara coupe now! better nick the oil before she twiggs to use it on her new one when we find one
