Loss Of Power

Hi,

i am the owner of a Citroen C5 LX 16v 1749cc. Overnight it seems to have lost power. It starts and drives perfectley well but now when i put my foot down there seems to be very little power. There are no different noises and it still gets to 70mph but it just takes forever. I thoguht it may be the clutch but as i say it seems to drive perfectly fine and doesnt struggle to get up hills except i just cant do it quickly. There seems to be a minor smell of burning from somewhere in the engine but i cant seem to trace this at all. All hoes have been checked and there are no splits or damage. I hear the air flow meters can be a bit dodgy on C5's but i dont know whether it may be this. If so how east is it to change. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Regards

When you put your foot down can you see the rev counter going up and can you hear the engine picking up then does it take a while for the actual road speed to catch up. Try doing it in 2nd gear at 20 mph then just floor the acelarator pedal and keep it held down and see what happens. what milage is on the car

It could be the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculating Valve) you will get this if it gets coked up and sticks open, It is on the exhaust manifold and can be removed and cleaned up using a small wire brush. They are not to expensive to replace, I had a C3 which did the same thing and also a Mitsubishi Challenger which felt as though it had lost a cylinder, however the owners club do a plate for £5 which blanks it off, problem cured!
