Newbee Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Hi Guys, I've a 'Y' reg lingo and last week one of the front springs broke and I had to buy a spare from the dealer!!, £85 and £40 cash at a garage to fit it, now this car has only done 31000 miles so is that a bit young for a spring to be going, it was the drivers side front spring and the wife said she didn't run over any pot holes or speed bumps!I borrowed my fathers new lingo for the weekend to go to my caravan and the wind lifted the gazebo and one of the legs scratched his bonnet! a costly weekend don't you think, he reckons he can t-cut it out but I have my doudts. Johndouglas Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Yours is not the first one that I've heard of with broken front springs. It's been mentioned on Honest Johns website from time to time. Quote
kfk Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Should have spoken to your citroen dealer service department about the spring failure, they would probably have submitted a goodwill claim to Citroen and arranged to have them fitted free of charge......unfortunately its too late to persue that route now. It also begs the question at to whether you vehicle has had the suspension cup recall to prevent damage to the tyre when the spring fails......this too should be carried out free of charge by your main dealer if its required. iannez Posted June 1, 2007 Posted June 1, 2007 kfk is right. citroen would have paid for both sides to be replaced. on berlingos the main cause for springs snapping is the lower spring seat on the strut. it is pressed on and they turn towards the front of the car putting strain on the spring so its worth checking. as you look at it from the side the over hang should be directley above the tyre and not towards the front of the strut. make sure the wheels are straight when checking. iannez Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 replaced 2 front springs on a berlingo today. car was y reg and had 126,000miles on clock and citroen still did them under warrenty. Quote
kfk Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Must admit it suprises me that they are paying to replace the springs when you consider how pedantic thay can be over other items Quote
Newbee Posted June 14, 2007 Author Posted June 14, 2007 Never thought about approaching the dealer, I would have thought I stood no chance, would this be a dealer to dealer thing or is there a national policy on this, it would be good to know this as I expect the off side spring to go. Quote

iannez Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 the recall is there to catch the spring if it snaps to stop it going through the tyre. all dealers will put prior approval down to citroen uk. i have never known them to refuse. Quote

downsman Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Good news  Our old berlingo had the recall for spring guards to be fitted. I was surprised t the time that they didn't just replace the springs and be done with it. This way they end up paying two or three times. Honest john reported that the problem was for a lot of European makes (including BMW if I remember correctly) because there was a batch of springs likely to fail. Quote
