Update, The garage found a loose engine mount (near the cam belt) with a missing bolt, hence the clunk when setting off ! Don't know if the cam belt has been changed, but that's about the only reason for loosening that mount?
-
Well I took the car for its Mot, which it passed ! Despite me pointing out the noise and the tested having a drive and looking a bit closer, he couldn't find anything a miss! The front discs and pads were advised, I will replace them tomorrow hoping to find a very loose pad or something brake related.

Hi I removed the o/s drop link (which didn't look very old) but couldn't feel any play in the joints. I tried a few 'set offs' with it disconnected from the anti roll bar and the noise was still there. The car needs mot'ing in January so I think I will book it in early and get them to check it.
-
Ok thanks, i will do as advised and report back.

Forgot to add, it's the normally sprung version

Hi My 2008, C5 has a clunk as I set off (think its from the O/S/F) and occasionally when turning slowly. The car has just been in for a new steering rack and the garage had a pry bar in the various suspension joints but failed to find anything amiss (noise was there before the new rack). As it happens when setting off forwards (or say when pressing the throttle at 15-20mph in 2nd) I assume it's when the car lifts at the front, so I was thinking it might be the drop link, however it doesn't look too old ?

Hi Had the job done today. I found a local garage that quoted £300 all in, to change the rack for a reconditioned one with 12 months guarantee. At £100 more than I could get a rack for (and including tracking) it wasn't worth a day crawling about on the floor in the rain ! Thanks for all your help, any thoughts on greasing the input shaft (currently painted black) on the recon input shaft ?
-
I think the recon rack is the way to go, there's £120 difference but at least the pinion seal is guaranteed not to leak. I could risk the seal kit at £60 and then have to start again ! The supplier said the new rack would have to be fitted with the wheels 'turned fully right' does this make sense ?
-
Hi The engine is the 2.0 hdi. Would be great if the rack came out with the subframe in situ.
-
That's brilliant thanks! I agree a recon rack would be a better bet considering the rusty input shaft. I've only just got the car and don't have it with me at the moment, re 'remove the front subframe' which sounds too easy, is the front suspension mounted to this ? For future reference the seal kit (which contains the 4 'o' rings) is available from Jay Gee Hydrolic services, part number 23275 and the price quoted was £50 + vat
-
Hi My rack is leaking from the pipe 'o' rings and possibly the input shaft (need to confirm). I have located a seal kit containing the 4 'O' rings £50 + vat and/or a rack is available for £150 + vat. Are the seals replacable without taking the rack off ? How big a job is replacing the rack and is there a link to the procedure anywhere ? Thanks

Hi The car is a 2008 newer shape C5 with a manual gearbox, how do I remove the gear knob and handbrake grip to fit the above ? Title should say 'gaiter' predictive text lol!

Hi I have a 2008 newer shape C5 2.0 HDI tourer and need to top up the power steering fluid. It's a VTR with sprung suspension, do I use CHF or something else ? thanks

Hi i've got the' tyre pressures not monitored' message on the dash after about 1 mile from start up. Lexia says 'front right wheel transmitter module info not received no signal'. Is this likely to be a failed sensor in the tyre, or would the sensor need to be programmed in if it had been replaced by the previous owner before it would work ? Failing this can I turn the sytem off with lexia to avoid the messages and how ?

Hi it turns out that my ecu is a Sim 803 which can't be read with a galletto cable, only by BDM ie on the workbench - just typical !
-
Hi There seems to be a few options like the demo version etc, (i think i meed dp3?) will any of them work?
-
Hi I am wanting to remove the dpf from my 2005 hdi 138, I know I need a galletto cable etc but do i need software etc if so were do I get it from?
-
Hi The engine management light was on and I got the 'depolution fault' message on the dash when starting. I checked and replaced the inlet manifold sensor (p0098), cleared the codes with Lexia and so far so good, no Eml or depolution message.

Hi my 2005 c5 hdi 138 has the following fault codes read from lexia: 1) permanent fault,pre-post heating relay circuit coherence 2) fault not referenced in after sales (p0098) 3) fault not referenced in after sales (p0095) what is the likey cause ?, many thanks

Ok so should zero degrees be at when the wheelsa are straight? mine shows -128 degrees with the wheels straight and +51 degrees when i turn slightly clockwise (this reduced by 1 deg for every slight turn) andwhen i turn anticlockwise-128 becomes-127,-126 etc. Also how do i calibrate this on lexia ?

Hi I am trying to change the clutch cable on my 2004 berlingo 1.9d, but now the clutch arm doesn't move far enough so the cars stuck on ramps ! The new cable is the same length as the old one and was ordered from the reg number, i fitted the cable then released the plastic sleeve - do i have to ratchet it up first - if so how ?

Hi I blanked it off as I heard that it would improve low end pick up - which it did. The car had been juddering/shaking when started from cold, after fitting the egr blanking plate this stopped. Unfortunately within one journey of fitting it the engine management light came on. I read the codes p400, po402 and po341, they cleared but came back on again very soon. I removed the blanking plate the other day, reset the codes and they stayed off (except po342 camshaft position sensor) - however the shuddering at tickover has returned, so it's definitely connected to the egr. Someone has said that the egr is controlled via the MAF so that may be faulty ?

Hi I recently blanked off the EGR valve on my 2004 hdi with a plate bought via ebay. The car ran well however after the maiden voyage of 20 miles the anti pollution message and engine management light came on. My code reader came up with the following codes: po341 Camshaft position sensor A bank 1 - CKT range performance, po402 EGR flow excessive, po400 EGR flow malfunction. I cleared the codes which lasted for a few miles before returning, however only codes po341 and po402. Would blanking the EGR cause this and should I have removed and sealed the vacuum hose to the valve (i just left it attached as it was)? Would the fault codes po341 and po402 be connected or is it just coincidence? how do i test/rectify? any help greatly appreciated.

Hi i am refitting the towbar and wiring from my old 2002 C5 estate onto my 2004, unfortunately i have misplaced the wiring notes i made. I know which colour wires go from the 7 pin socket to the lights etc, but where does the audible warning with 5 wires go? black is earth, but where do yellow, orange, grey and green go?
