  1. Hi everyone. I've recently had to repair my windscreen washer pump.I thought I would check the switch first and as this involved removing the steering wheel I took out the fuses for the horn and steering wheel controls/airbag ecu. Of course it turned out to be the washer pump itself and not the switch and I ended up taking the front bumper off to get to it. A lot easier than it looks. However once I had put it all back together I had a message on the dash display saying ESP/ASR NOT FUNCTIONING. The esp/asr warning light was on and the service light was on. Also I cannot close the front windows with the remote control any more. The back ones close okay. All the windows operate normally with the switches in the car. HELP! Malcolm
  2. Hi Guys. It's been interesting reading your comments about the ride quality of the C5. I have an 02 2.2HDI with the H3+ suspension and I use the sport mode all the time. Why?. It's more comfortable. The car has now done 35,000 miles and I've had it 18 months and bought it with 21,000 miles so I assume it has the original spheres. I tried it in the sport mode a couple of times shortly after I had bought it simply out of curiosity but now use it all the time. I can only assume that it's stiffening the damping and not the springing and this contributes to the better ride quality. By the way, of the 3 citroens I have owned to date my XM coped better with speed humps than either my Xantia or C5 and the sport mode on the XM seemed to make absolutely no differnce at all. Malcolm
  3. Hi Wally Walrus. I had a problem with my fan controller but to prove it was that and not the motor I had to remove the plug from the motor and wire it directly to 12 volts. To do this you have to remove the passenger side kick panel and follow the 2 thick wires that come from the fan controller on the drivers side up to the fan plug situated on the left hand side of the heater. Before attempting to get the motor out I would suggest you put power to it in situ using thick cable as it takes a lot of amps. Apparently the controllers breaking down is a fairly common fault and I remember mine cost me just under £50 about a year ago. Hope this helps. Malcolm
  4. Thanks again Paul.I do have a tow bar albeit unused for a long time but never the less I'll go and ckeck that. I'll keep you posted. Regards. Malcolm.
  5. Hi everyone. Checked the rear lights, brake lights and bulbs and they are all ok and working. Still no rear fog lamps.
  6. Thanks Paul. I'll have to go and check that. Malcolm
  7. Hi Paul. Thanks for the response. I guess I didn't explain the problem too well. I turn the knob once and the front fog lamps and indicator light come on. I turn the knob again and the second indicator for the rear fog light comes on but the actual lights themselves fail to illuminate. I can also hear a relay down near the fuse box click but all to no avail.
  8. I have a 2002 2.2 HDI. Recently I tried to turn on my rear fog lamps but to no avail. The fronts come on ok and the indicator light on the dash says that the rears are working but the're not. Checked the bulbs and fuses and the're ok. Help!.
  9. Unfortunately you have encountered a fairly common problem with the C5 heating /ventilation system. I seems the flaps that redirect the airflow have gear teeth on them and being made of plastic these wear out. If you have a look through this forum it's been talked about a few times before. I can't remember the solution but being a C5 it will undoubtedly be complicated and expensive. Good luck. Malcolm
  10. Hi Macca Pacca. I have an 02 2.2 and have fitted the Thule towbar mounted cycle rack. It comes as a kit including a number plate holder. It mounts on to the actual ball of the tow bar with a very strong clamping system as is secured by one very substantial bolt done up with a large spanner [supplied]. The number plate holder comes with lights which you plug in to the towing socket. It holds three adult bikes comfortably and most importantly, securely. It's two biggest advantages for me are the ease of fitting, five minutes start to finish and the lack of windage caused if you fitted a roof mounted rack. I think it cost me about £120 which when you look at the excellent build quality seems good value for money. I bought it mail order but shortly after saw a local branch of Halfords were selling them at a comparable price. Thule actually make a full range of this type of rack with prices up to about £350. Another advantage I have just remembered is that you can still open the tailgate with the rack and cycles fitted. Hope this helps. Regards Malcolm
  11. Hi Jon. You are quite right. You probably did see a hatchback with a rear wiper. However retro fitting fitting one might be a tad difficult as it would require a rear windscreen change. The wiper spindle actually goes through a hole in the glass and as you probably know you can't drill a hole through toughened glass. My friend has a VTR and they have them fitted as standard. It looks very neat and tidy but certainly not an easy diy job. Regards Malcolm
  12. Hi Jacko. This is quite an easy fix. As you say the resistor is only about £15 pounds. I replaced the one on my 2002 2.2 HDI which has the climate control and the unit was £ 50. The resistor pack on my car is located on the side of the heater itself down near the pedals just to the left of the steering column a couple of inches up from the floor. It's held in place by 2 screws and if I remember correctly 2 multi plugs. Obviously I can't be certain yours is in the same place but if you have any difficulties just follow the pair of thick red wires from the blower motor itself and you will find they go directly to this resistor. Apparently it's a common fault. Good luck. Malcolm.
  13. Hello Sheff-boy. I've got one of these "multi car data discs" and after reading your problem I had a look at it as my 2.2 hdi C5 is now over 5 years and has got the original cam belt albeit on only 27000 miles. It gives quite a reasonable amount of information and also lists all the special Citroen tools you would need. It then goes on to describe how to do the job in a good deal of detail. When I changed the belts on my 1.9 diesel Xantia I merely used bolts and drill bits of the correct size but I don't know if that will be the case with the C5. If you were to post an email address on the this forum I'll try to download the info from the disc and send it to you. I don't actually know if I'm able to do this as I'm a bit of a luddite when it comes to computers. Regards Malcolm.
  14. Hi WeeMan. I had the same problem on mine and I took the switch off, dismantled it and cleaned up a small brass slider. It took me two hours from start to finish. CAUTION. Do make sure you take out the fuse to the airbag before you start and be VERY gentle with every thing. When you see what's inside you will understand my words of caution. I suspect a new switch would not do your bank balance any good atall. The cure has worked perfectly for over four months. Good luck. Malcolm
  15. Hi agosling. The fact that you are getting cold air to one side suggests that it is not the evaporator that's at fault as I can't believe even Citroen would fit a seperate evaporator to each side. However I do remember reading somewhere that the flaps that control the airflow have gear teeth that are made of plastic and these can and do wear or break. You might try looking under the dash board and see if it's possible to move the flaps by hand. By looking at how the drivers side works first you should see if it's possible to do this to the passenger side. Good luck Malcolm

    Air Blower

Hi Rob I bought and fitted the new resistor unit and hey presto! it's all working perfectly. Just to recap my car is a 2002 2.2 hdi with climate control. The part number for the control unit is 6441L2 and it cost me £41.68 plus VAT = 48.97. I assume your car also has climate control. The unit for a car with just air conditioning is different and only costs about £15. If I can be of any more help let me know. Regards. Malcolm

    Air Blower

Hi Rob. Well after a bit of searching I found the resistor. It's located on the r/h side of the heater down near the floor just to the left of the steering column. It's held in place by 2 screws and has 2 green plugs in it with a total of 6 wires. A red and a black are the live supply. Another red and black go to the fan motor and there are 2 control wires coming down from the heating and climate control buttons. Removing the unit and bridging the heavy red and black wires turns the fan on at full speed. I've checked the 2 control wires and depending on the fan speed setting you get a reading varying between 4.5 kohms to 155 kohms. I'm assured this is about what I should expect so I've come to the conclusion the resistor unit is faulty. I contacted a Ctroen spares department and they are just under £50 so I will be buying one either tomorrow or Monday. I'll you know if my conclusions are right. Malcolm

    Air Blower

  19. Hi Bigdavie. There are as you say 3 fuse boxes on the C5. 2 are situated inside the glove box on the left hand side but they are so close together you might consider that they are just 1. The 3rd is under the bonnet and under the plastic cover immediately behind the battery. Good luck.
  20. Whilst driving in my 2.2HDI C5 hatchback recently I had the climate control working and the temperature set at the lowest available, 16 degrees. The system was working perfectly delivering masses of very cold air when suddenly it stopped!. Nothing I did would restart it and when I tried to switch to non climate control I still could not get the fan to work. I have checked all the fuses shown in the handbook to no avail. I even disconnected the battery for a few minutes hoping the system would miraculously "reset" itself. Nothing. Help!.
