Hi Kane, Thanks for that bit of info, I was wondering why mine was hard after the spheres had been changed. Looks like the pro had just filled it to where he thought. I actually removed approx. 2.5 Litres of excess fluid, but what a difference in the ride, still slightly hard, but a definite difference to before!!

No problems Sam, Thats what we are here for is to provide help to one another. It gives you a warm feeling when you help somebody, either that or I`ve had an accident!!!!  Dave

Hi Sam, Not sure myself what to call it, but below is a link to download the Haynes manual in PDF form. If you need the Haynes manual here is a link to download it as a PDF. Download the first part, wait 10-15 Mins, then download the second part, unzip them both and you end up with the complete manual. http://pdftown.com/Citroen-Xantia-Service-Manual.html If you also look back through the posts and find mine called "Citroen Service" this will take you to a Citroen website, you will need to register, however once you have you can use the free section to get a list of parts and exploded diagrams. To get the correct part for your motor you will need the VIN number located on the drivers wing, adjacent to the windscreen washer fill. Hope this is of use to you Sam. Dave.

Hi old lager, It does seem strange that there is no gasket, definitely worth trying the liquid gasket, what have you got to lose!! Apart from a bit of time dismantling and reassembling the pump, etc. Will keep a lookout for your reply. Dave

Hi Darko, Nice to see that you have managed to sort out your steering with just a bit of WD40, a lot less expensive than getting it replaced!! I think that you mean air conditioning?? That I am afraid is beyond my limited capabilities. I would however think that it would not be a simple job, certainly not as simple as bolting on a pump!! If only!! Any way nice to see that you have got your problems sorted. Dave.

Hi oldlager, To get to the hex bolt you need to remove the front wheel, then remove the shield under the wing. The pulley on the pump has holes in it to facilitate removal, as far as I am aware the only other bolt is acessible from within the engine bay. I have just got one the other week for mine and was lucky enough to be able to undo the nut on the back and then push it out with a screwdriver. Mine was a 3 piper, two metal pipes and a hose. If you look at my post "Citroen Service" you can find detailed diagrams for the whole system, you will need to register to use it, and some services require payment, however the diagrams are in the free section.

Hi Darko, I have had a PM from Colin, and he informs me that the wheel bearings have to be pressed out, using a hydraulic press. The carrier is easy to remove then must be taken to somebody with a press. Colin has just had his done and it took 10 Tons of pressure to remove the old one!! The new ones must then be pressed back into place.

Hi, I had no probs, as far as i could see from GSF`s website, there are only 2 listed, one of these is for the Mk2 Xantia. Best off if you can find a Xantia the same model and year as yours to be safe, although shoudn`t be any problem. :(

Hi Reservex, The part you are talking about is the Hydraulic Pressure Regulator. Your best bet is to try and get one from a scrapper, there is a few brackets that hold the hydraulic pipes in place that have to be removed to replace this unit. I have just had mine replaced as I had the same problem, I took one from a scrapper and was lucky as the radiator had been removed, but it still took about 45 mins to remove. New part is approx £135 from Citroen, don`t know about reconditioned units. Hope this is of help to you. Oh, before I forget, there are only 3 bolts holding the unit in place, 2 on the front and 1 on the side of the gearbox. One on the front also doubles as part of the brackets for the pipework, so these brackets have to be removed before you can remove this bolt. Dave

Hi Gary, Colin is having a few problems with the forum at present, he can read posts but not reply to them. However it does sound like your rear spheres are due for renewal, trouble is once you replace one set if the other is on the way, it becomes quite obvious. I had my rear ones changed and the realised just how bad the front ones had become!

Hi Chris, If your ride is still harsh then you need the 4 corner spheres changing, and as it sounds like you have a GSF near you, I would get them from there. About £20 each.

Hi John, Welcome to the forum, I would suspect the pump, I have put a link to download the Haynes manual in this reply. Just a thought, does the wipers work when you try to wash the windscreen? If they do then I would put my last pound on it being the pump. If you need the Haynes manual here is a link to download it as a PDF. Download the first part, wait 10-15 Mins, then download the second part, unzip them both and you end up with the complete manual. http://pdftown.com/Citroen-Xantia-Service-Manual.html

Ticking Noise & Windscreen De-mister Problem & Others
DaveWalling replied to coopertron's topic in Technical Section
Hi Mark, I am not a mechanic, but I would think about 2-3 hours to change a clutch, so cost depends on the labour charges. Colins problems I think are with the website rather than his computer, he can still send personal messages, he just can`t reply to posts, even though he can read them!! Very strange! -
Hi Darko, The universal joint that went on mine is the one that you say, between 5 and 6. The column was not replaced as a whole, as far as I am aware, as my mechanic showed me the defective part. Sorry I can`t tell you how to go about changing it though. As for your noise, that sounds like a wheel bearing has collapsed, if you have access to a set of pullers it should not be too difficult a job. I now have my car back and the steering is wonderful, however I think I may still have a leak somewhere. Hope this is of some use to you and I hope that you get it sorted.

Hi Jacobsladder, Welcome to the forum, yes you can use the VIN number (Located on the drivers side of the engine bay) to get the correct part from Citroen, unsure though about getting in touch with Peugeot. You require the VIN number to get any parts from Citroen, as this guarantees that you get the correct part.

Ticking Noise & Windscreen De-mister Problem & Others
DaveWalling replied to coopertron's topic in Technical Section
Hi Mark, 1) Yes, definitly sounds like the accumulator sphere is in need of changing. I would say that you can change it using a set of ramps, it is not a dificult job. 2) Must admit this one is out of my league. 3) I would say that the release bearing could be shot at, I think Colin might know the answer to this one, but at the moment he is having problems with the forum as he is unable to answer posts!! If you need the Haynes manual here is a link to download it as a PDF. Download the first part, wait 10-15 Mins, then download the second part, unzip them both and you end up with the complete manual. http://pdftown.com/Citroen-Xantia-Service-Manual.html -
What Do All The Buttons Mean On The Xantia Dash Board
DaveWalling replied to gavinski's topic in Technical Section
Hi Gavinski, not sure on your model, but on the Mk1 Xantia`s the owners manual is located on the right hand side of the steering column, under the dash. There is a knob which you turn and then a panel drops down and the manual is there, assuming that a previous owner hasn`t lost it. -
Hi Darko, If you find out that your pump is OK, then check the universal joint on the steering column. I have just got mine back from the pro and he replaced the pressure regulator and hydraulic pump, but the steering was still stiff. It turned out to be the aforementioned universal joint on the steering column that was causing the problem!

Hi all, Just been to the scrappers this morning, took about 1 hr and now have a second hand pump and pressure regulator. The cost? £15 for the pair!!! Jusst hope now that they are OK

Front Centre Sphere Weeping - Please Advise
DaveWalling replied to shaunlfc1's topic in Technical Section
I would recommend that you change this sphere asap. In their infinite wisdom Citroen have used the hydraulic system for the suspension, steering and brakes. If I am right and Colin Hunter (I hope you don`t mind me calling you a Xantia guru Colin!!) will correct me if I am wrong, if this sphere fails you will lose the lot! It acts as a backup in case you lose the hydraulics for any other reason so allowing you to stop safely. Oh, you will need to reprogram the key fob once you have replaced the batteries! If you check some of the older posts you can find out how to do this. Easiest thing to do is to do a search for it. -
Front Centre Sphere Weeping - Please Advise
DaveWalling replied to shaunlfc1's topic in Technical Section
Sorry Shaun, I didn`t realise that you were reading the post. I had to submit the post and then go and get the link from another thread and then edit the reply to insert the link. I hope this helps. You can buy a tool on ebay for about £15 or I think you can use a large pair of waterpump pliers. Personally I would go for the tool as it can be used for all the spheres. -
Front Centre Sphere Weeping - Please Advise
DaveWalling replied to shaunlfc1's topic in Technical Section
Hi Shaun, welcome to the forum. The sphere you are talking about is the accumulator sphere and is located on the front of the engine, between the radiator and the engine block. It is green in colour and looks identical to the ones on the suspension. It is a fairly simple job to change, however I recommend that you get a hold of a Haynes manual for the procedure as it can be dangerous if not done properly, there is a lot of pressure in them and if not released in the correct manner can cause injury. I have included a link to download said manual (Download Part 1, then 2. When both are unzipped and run they form one pdf file.) http://pdftown.com/Citroen-Xantia-Service-Manual.html Replacement spheres are about £20 fom GSF. -
I would try and get one from a scrapper, I am in the same predicament at he moment as my is totally cream crackered, along with the hydraulic regulator. I suggest that you contact Citroen and give them your chassis number, ask them for the part number, then once you find a scrapper do the same thing with the number from that and then compare tem, obviously if they are the same part number you should have no problems. Colin is right GSF do list different pumps however I have been looking on the Citroen Idependent Dealer website and that lists only 2 for the Xantia! Very puzzling! http://service.citroen.com/
