  1. My 2003 HDI blew her drivers seat airbag after sliding on ice (wow what a smell for so little excitement!) - replaced the unit but I can't reset the dash warning lamp with the freebie software - local garage is saying it's a £3k ECU replacement............... options??????
  2. Done the same but have snapped the plastic/nylon bit that fits on the end of the metal gear rod - twisted hard as I did on my orig Pic --- now I've got to find how to refit/secure as I've found that unless the knob is perfectly in line reverse is v.hard to select, reverse can be still engaged when you think you have selected first (Oops!) OR the reverse cable comes off the peg & reverse is then not available............
  3. Bought a new C3 1.4 hdi in April and whilst underpowered compared to my previous 90bhp xsara (any real life experience of a tuning box or similar appreciated!) car OK. Fitted my Nokia phone car kit but couldn't get a mute feed & CUK don't do 1 anymore. Lived with it since BUT have since found a supplier - literally plug and play -- fits both the CARK91 (separate black box gubbins) as well as the 'all in 1' box type that attaches to the holder which I now use - just had to use a scotchlok connector for the yellow mute lead. Now have auto mute on receiving or making (voice activated) calls. "You require a Kram 68234 however as the Citroen doesn’t have an ignition supply at the back of the radio so you will still have to connect one to the lead (Perhaps from cigar lighter if this is ignition controlled) or you can buy a Kram 69600 ‘Igni Box’ which will generate an artificial ignition supply when the vehicle is started up. The cost for the lead would be £26 inc vat, the igni box is £12 inc vat plus postage of your choice either courier @ £6.95 or Recorded delivery @ £3.50. 4. Looking at Mk2 Xsara HDi's for eldest - all around 90K but the clutches and steering a lot heavier that our 182k mk1 - do I recall an issue with the clutch cable seizing due to lube being leeched from the outer sheath?? Doesn't answer the steering issue BUt that could be tracking/pressures etc but strange and we've driven 1/2 a dozen over the weekend, ABS reluctant to activate - 1 locked up front wheels leaving a nice set of tracks on the road! 1 stopped without skid but no ABS - all have working lamps which extinguish......
  5. Bought the 1.4 on purchase price/mpg consideration alone -- have worked out I've gone from a 1298cc car in 1977 thru 1256, 1372, 1598, 1995, 2995, 1900, 2395, 1995, 2110 and now the 1.4 - makes an interesting performance curve! Will look at Dragon - thanks
  6. Now done 3.5k miles in our [new] April 08 1.4HDi - not a patch on previous Xsara 90bhp HDi in terms of power, comfort and perceived longetivity [no topcoat paint in the under bonnet area and spare wheel cell] mpg OKish at 55 but as most is motorway the 3 mpg gain on my 182k Xsara ain't a lot - probably need to upgrade the ECU - insurance not an issue but I want to be sure the change is the correct 1. With complex wiring I'm not even sure I could find the correct unit. When we upgraded our Picasso 2.0HDi with a SUPERCHIP unit I was not overly impressed - yes the engine was smoother but I couldn't really determine a significant performance upgrade ------- So, from owner experience given I will be driving her 24000 miles commuting paid from our own pocket, which tuning aid should we buy................ the ECU seems totally different..
  7. Turned out original unit has an intermittent fault - solution> buy another for £15 have it decoded for £11 & hey ho all sorted
  8. Now got C3 so wanted to move Phillips radio/cassette & 6 disc Cd into her - seems from threads not worth it so want to put into sons Punto - as it has front panel control for cd not an issue there are no steering wheel controls. Plugged in expected to be asked for code which I have but nowt happens. on the workbench I eventually managed to get it to fire up but not convinced how -- won't work in car & now not on bench. there is definitely power as far as the fuse and the heat sink gets hot so she must be 'on' but no display -- thinking there is some time out -- I know from the handbook that 10 wrong codes = dead as the proverbial parrot but any help gratefully received - I'd even buy another head unit if v.cheap (as I can get a brand new radio/cd changer for £70 it would have to be very cheap). THANKS
  9. yes PIN 4 of the offset plug set,
  10. Will do - did the same on my xsara hdi - but had the radio socket wiring diagram & a std iso so that was easy - weird so see on a year 2000 car the word 'phone' on the display when receiving calls & the radio muted! Kids thought that was cool! (they're older now & maybe not as easily impressed!
  11. Just collected new c3 1.4hdi. I need to fit my nokia car kit which is easy enough but any idea which pin on the radio is the mute feed - as the car doesn't have standard iso plugs Interesting to read the handbook which states the radio is linked to the ecu -- took a long breath & unplugged wiring to see if CUK were simply using their own adapter into an iso plug. no, but when repowering it all worked without me having to find a non existent code
  12. Swapped Xsara 2.0 HDi for a C3 70bhp HDi - looks as if I can't just swap the Clarion radio & autochanger easily - sockets/plugs totally different and no code needed when power disrupted. Tried to fit to sons Punto Mk1 plugs all the same but will not switch on guess it is waiting for a signal from the Xsara ECU??????? Have the radio code SO, can anyone suggest how to sort to fit to either car (realistically I think this will be the punto).
  13. Took delivery of a C3 1.4 HDi Rythmn yesterday to replace a 182k Xsara HDI arrived as a Cachet but no alloys just different seat material. MPG is 46 (Xsara had no comp so actual fill to fill was used to prove 50 mpg) so it better improve otherwise this will have been a really bad move,..,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
  14. OK Guys & Gals just give me my 1.5 seconds of maudling - we bought our poseidon met blue hatch in June 2000 a bit of a come down I thought from a large petrol estate but hey ho large commuting mileage dictated a change. Well woz I surprised or WOT! 50mpg, 118mph & a little grin every so often ------- spent some dosh during last 10 months but after she dropped a valve it really became do I drop in another engine or not ---- heart searching but we've swapped for a C3 HDi 1.4. BUT ----------- my challenge is can anyone beat my clutch longetivity 182165 miles ON THE ORIGINAL CLUTCH. It helps that we owned her from new so have all service sheets, invoices down to a nearside headlamp bulb replaced at Xmas 2007 ((OK sad I know!!!!!!!!!)) SO, can YOU! beat the clutch challenge???????????????????????????????
  15. 2000W HDi hatch pre face lift owned from new 182k replaced 'soft start' pulley on end of crank June 2007 due to the nipples wearing down allowing pulley to spin through the 'soft start' slots The 'new' pulley has now parted company with itself ---- the welds on the revised (£150 GULP) pulley I fitted have sheared as has the woodruff key on the crank which allows it to spin eccentrically. Q: did a failure of the welds cause the woodruff key to fail or did a woodruff key failure cause the welds to come under additional strain & fail. I bought the new pulley from supplying dealer of the car Dixons in Doncaster who have since gone bust - have the receipt but before I seek support from CUK thought I'd ask for some comment --- my guess is she is repairable by removing the cam belt, then the lower sprocket to get at the woodruff key (I take it, it is a CUK spare???? or a general engineering company if I could give them a spec/size) replacing this, the cam belt (last was 40k ago so now is a good time), then another auxiallary drive pulley (this is the crux 'cos £150 is a heck of a lot of dosh). Thoughts welcome...
  16. My 2.0 HDI AC failed both fans last Summer - a bit of so & so to check but check them first before digging too far --- if you unhook the temp sensor/sender plug from the head & connect the 2 terminals of the lead it will mimic the temp needing the fan(s) - if they run your prob is elsewhere if not you need a new fan(s)
  17. very useful THANKS
  18. OLD forum request I know but as I have just fitted them to my Fiat Ulysse........... 4 sensor kit rears fitted OK fronts fitted after removal (a bit convoluted & yes the under wing liners DO need to come out) the major prob is where to run the 4 wires into the cabin - cheated for now & rang across the door aperture but not ideal by any stretch. 1 thing my kit has a connection to brake lights which switch on the fronts for as long as you depress the brake pedal, rears are the usual selecting reverse gear switch on. Fine if it's an auto but a pain in a manual..... I'm fitting a normally closed relay so the fronts will be on permanently & switched off when reverse is selected & powers up the relay which will select the rears
  19. the glow plugs on my Xsara HDi are fine so rough starting is I now believe the glow plug relay/timer -- thing is where is it? My best guess is the black sealed unit bolted to a bracket near the nearside headlight with 2 hefty leads OR is it all combined in the brown BITRONIC unit bolted to the same bracket or somewhere else?????
  20. Now with 178k alternator is probably on it's way out - under load as soon as revs drop to 2000 the headlamps flicker very slightly irrespective of speed at those revs. Above or below it's fine - quick checks to do?
  21. Hi, thanks for reply, lamp does not extinguish for ages (>30 secs) & starts with loads of grey smoke & 2.5 cylinders the eventually fires on all 4 Hadn't thought 1 glow plug failiure would stop them all as it appears they are wired in parallel. Will check the plugs individually
  22. Make sure you have the radio codes then disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes it's the same as PC reboot --- you should then be OK --- in a drunken harrassed moment I yanked off the batt lead in desperation as HalfXXXXX installed a CD a/Changer which knacked the fuel/trip 'computer' Hey Ho all OK. No liability accepted as they say!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  23. 2000W HDi hatch - apart from all the probs with AC & cooling fans glow plugs are now clearly on the blink - fuses intact & the Autodata CD I have which covers ALL vehicles indicates the relay is either the "BITRONIC" brown plastic encased unit OR a black plastic sealed unit in the front nearside space in front of the battery. Can anyone confirm which 1 I need to replace? Ta! in advance ps I'd love a CIT cd if anyone can help
  24. Make sure you have all radio codes etc then disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes, reconnect & you should have lift off - had the same prob with my Pic & in a drunken moment took off battery as a last resort - having had CIT warnings about the 'master interface' being wrecked I didn't really care at that point (Halfords were on notice that they were responsible as fitters of the Sony CD auto changer that stopped the computer bits working). Essentially it is PC reboot - can you please let the forum know if it works as a Xsara of 99 isn't something I'd expect to be on the BSi
