    C5 Chipping

Cruise control is useful on the motorway but I also use it a lot in quiet 30 and 40 zones where it is all too easy to exceed the speed limit enough to get caught by speed cameras.

Does it have cruise control? If so try accelerating using that rather than the accelerator pedal and see if the performance is any better.
  3. Mine has always been like that.
  4. Surely there shouldn't be any smoke at all from an hdi with an FAP/particulate filter? An FAP equipped engine in need of an "Italian tune up" will show the "particulate filter clogged" error as all the soot particles are trapped in the filter instead of being blown out of the exhaust. An FAP equipped engine will give a zero reading on the MOT emissions test. It sounds like something may not have been done correctly when the service was done.
  5. Why not just ring a couple of dealers and ask them?
  6. I stand to be corrected but I think the eloys additive tank has to be filled from underneath the car.
  7. How does the performance and economy of the 2.0 compare with the 2.2? I've got a 2.2Hdi VTR Estate (pre-facelift) in which I've done 53k miles in just over 3 years (total mileage now 73k) and have been very pleased with it until recent problems with the dreaded anti pollution fault. I was thinking of trading it in for a facelifted 2.0Hdi like you've done.
  8. I think it's a C5 feature. Certainly the headlights on my 04 2.2 Hdi estate have always faded briefly whenever the suspension pump kicks in.
  9. Just stick "Peugeot 2.2 antipollution" into Google and you'll find them :o .
  10. The oil level indicator on my 04 2.2hdi always flashes if the oil is right up to the top mark on the dipstick and the car is not perfectly level.
  11. I'd check that alternator belt first.
  12. By rear door do you meant the tailgate? If it's an estate, crawl into the back via a rear side door and you will find there's a little hole at the side of the catch into which you can insert a screwdriver and release the mechanism. I don't know about the saloon/hatchback but it probably has something similar.
  13. I live in Rossendale and have my C5 2.2 serviced at Bury Car Centre in Bury and find them very helpful. As previously commented, the main dealers know the common faults and what to look for. It took one of BCC's mechanics about 5 seconds from lifting the bonnet to diagnose a high fuel consumption problem as the swirl chamber control valve link rod. I've also had good service in the past from Walker Farrimond in Nelson but I haven't used them for the last 3 or 4 years so I have no recent experience.
  14. My 2.2hdi has just had a similar AP and occasional ESP (causing the car to go into LHM) fault which the local Citroen dealer traced to the diaphragm you mention. It was replaced on Monday this week and seems ok so far but I've only done about 50 miles. I've got a longish motorway journey to do on Friday so I'll see how that goes. The M6 in LHM is not much fun.
  15. Thanks for that. It's a pity it's such an awkward thing to get at. I cleaned the EGR valve on my daughter's Renault Megane recently and that's really accessible, probably just as well given the problems that Renault dci engines have with egr valves!
  16. Removing the EGR valve on the 2.2 looks easier said than done as it's hiding between the engine and bulkhead. Anyone got any tips on how to do it?
  17. Battery out to change a bulb? Which bulb?
  18. Did you get the problem fixed? My 04 2.2hdi estate has started suffering from occasional loss of power. I have a handy uphill stretch of motorway nearby which is useful for performance testing. Usually if I floor the accelerator at 65-70 mph in 6th it will (if I let it) reach a very illegal speed by the top of the hill but this morning it wouldn't accelerate at all yet further on in the journey it was back to its usual self. Having had a similar problem with a previous car due to a sticky egr valve I removed the engine covers only to find that the egr valve on this engine is buried between the engine and the bulkhead and looks like a nightmare to remove. Has anyone any experience of removing the egr valve on the 2.2 or any suggestions as to what else might be causing the problem? The car has done 72k miles with a full service history and had the particulate filter and eloys done a few months ago. Fuel consumption is unchanged at about 40-42 mpg.
  19. I'm pretty certain that the 2.0 110bhp hdi doesn't have the filter. The later 2.0 136bhp does.
  20. My wife's Peugeot 307 1.6Hdi does the same. The garage suggested it was to do with the particulate filtration system.
  21. I think there's definitely something wrong with your engine. My 2004 2.2hdi estate pulls strongly from about 1500rpm and I rarely need to rev it beyond 3000.
  22. I had the same with my 2.2HDI Estate. I've been using a local independent tyre fitter for years with no problems but they had several attempts to balance the wheels without success after fitting some new Conti Premium tyres for me. When the car went into the Citroen dealer for a service I asked them to look at the problem, they rebalanced the wheels and 5k miles later they are still fine.
  23. I had the same problem with my 2.2HDI at about 50k miles. It's an air intake flap controlled by vacuum from the inlet manifold and is supposed to open when the engine is under load. I took the car in because the fuel consumption had increased by about 5mpg and the engine felt a bit rough when the revs got above 3000 rpm. It was the first thing the mechanic looked for (they all do that sir!) and took about 15 minutes to replace. Mine was still under warranty.
  24. Thanks.
  25. I have a 04 reg C5 VTR 2.2 hdi estate with the 6 speed gearbox. The reversing lights have been a bit iffy for a while but now they have stopped working altogether. I'm reluctant to book the car in at the local dealer to fix something that may only need a quick squirt of WD40 but I can't find the reversing light switch. Can anyone please tell me where it is?
