  1. Hi & thanks, Yeah that was my immediate thought when it first happened, with a single wipe it cycles as it should then returns to the centre again instead of the rest position.
  2. Thanks for the reply, just throwing this in the hat, why does it work as normal but doesn't return to rest at the bottom of the windscreen but into the middle ?
  3. Hi folks, 2003 HPI Exclusive Est, front windscreen wipers stopping after cycle in middle of screen. Yesterday coming home in the rain, the windscreen wipers stopped dead centre of the windscreen, when they start again they cycle as normal but stop in the middle of the windscreen instead of at the bottom !........anybody got a fix ?
  4. Having finally getting fed up listening to the wife moaning on about the noises coming from every minor bump or pothole in the road, i changed the drop links on her HPI Estate.....Only thing is it doesn't seem to have made any difference, still sounds and feels noisy. Also since i changed them, when turning right or reversing with the steering wheel hard to the right, theres more noises. I've taken off all the linings in the wheel arch and removed the wheel, can't see anything rubbing, no excessive wear and tear on anything, just when turning or reversing the noise is ever present, as well as the noises that were there prior to changing the drop links ! Could this be suspension related ?

Haven't had a chance to put into practise any of your suggestions yet but since changing the plugs the car is running a lot smoother now....Still a nagging doubt in my mind that it could be anything as simple as plugs, when i removed them they didn't look too bad ! But there's no hesitency when accelerating now and changing gear but now i have to get rid of the service light and anti pollution warning, is there any way of reseting them to see if they come on again ? Cheers, lawser

well now after looking through the haynes manual i'm trying to work out how it cost me nearly 500 quid to do the dephaser......Am i missing something, is it just a sensor ?

Right folks, my attempt at clarifying things: Car had been running fine, no real problems other than occassional anti pollution light coming on and off. Car went in for a standard service at local Indie (Which i have used for years without fault) Recommended new Camshaft Dephaser,it sounded like a diesel I posted on here to find out more before agreeing to the work, personally looking back the car did sound progressively noisier over the time we've had it. After work was done the car was hesitant on acceleration and throwing wobblers all the time, going into limp mode on accelerating in every gear and also the heater stopped working but thanks to this forum i fixed that myself, took it back and they recommended new coil but were'nt sure if this was the problem ? But they would have to charge me for new one if they fitted it, even if this wasn't the problem Bought a second hand coil, car seemed better but not 100%, still stuttering although less while accelerating and still going into limp mode Took the car back to Indie, they then thought new fuel pump but again were'nt 100% sure, recommended taking to citroen who would be able to do full diagnostics, at this point they held there hands up and waved the white flag....HaHa ! At this point took the car to a mate who has a code reader and this is what he came up with - P0302, P1113, P0403, P0313 On this basis I then took off the EGR, which didn't look too bad & checked connections, hoses, filters everything i could relating to the codes before grudgingly taking the car to Citroen Aberdeen. Citroen then tested the car and confirmed new fuel pump, Fault Codes - P1288 & P1294 So new fuel pump fitted, car running reasonable although still in 2nd gear a little splutterry. Anyway driving down the motorway into 3rd gear accelerating and on comes esp malfunction, anti pollution & service light. Stop car & restart engine, anti pollution & service light stays on, esp goes out. Take it back to Citroen, another diagnostic charge to be told permanent fault with coil pack, coil pack not firing correctly. Also permanent fault with Catalytic converter. We'll replace coil pack and spark plugs but can't gaurantee the fault will be cured and charge you another £400 into the bargain ! To cut a long story short, told them to take a hike and replaced the plugs myself. Now i have noticed an improvement, so am wondering what step next, coil or cat or both ? Both anti pollution light and service lights permanently on. So basically comes down to how much more do i do before calling it a day, if it's the coil or cat i can live with that but enoughs enough for me i'm afraid....No more dealers because i do genuinley feel ripped off here in Aberdeen.

No spark plugs were never replaced nor the cambelt but the spark plugs have been now ! I think this has made a bit of a difference, but the service light still stays on and anti pollution fault is still there. Although still can't tell if the cat or the coil is at fault, the coil was second hand so wondering what's cheaper to replace, doesn't seem to be many places that supply for the HPI engine, the only quote i've had for the coil is £170 which seems pretty steep ? What's even stranger is the fact that the car only passed it's MOT at christmas time so surely if the cat was at fault emmissions would have been affected ? Is it worth buying a code reader and if so which one and how much ? Have the dealers taken out a hit on Techbod ?
  10. Techbod, should it not be a 14mm long reach box spanner instead of 16mm for the hpi engine ?
  11. Anyone know what type of spark plug is needed for the HPi engine, i haven't got the old ones out yet and i'm waiting on the Haynes manual :) Just want to make sure that the plugs that were in there were correct in the first place ?
  12. Thanks for the replies folks !

I'm already £280 quid out of pocket alone with dealer diagnostics, so it will be a cold day in hell to make me ever go back to Arnold Clark Citroen in Aberdeen ! The car did sound like a diesel before the dephaser was changed out, so it does run quieter but sadly not smoothly ! Got a spark plug tool from Halfords yesterday so will have a crack at the plugs this weekend, thanks for the input guys
  14. Anyone know where i can get a spark plug remover for an HPI engine ? And a coil pack for the same ? ;)

Yeah been there already, one of the reasons i go there is because one of the mechanics was in a previous life a Citroen "Technician" ! They say it's set up correctly....Just feels like i'm up ***oops*** creek without a paddle at the moment and to make matters worse it's the wifes car !

Yeah and have a good night out as well ! Originally put the car in for a service with my local indie, was told it needed a camshaft dephaser, so got that fixed and serviced and the car has run crap since. After much trips back and forth between me and the garage they held their hands up, admitted defeat and recommended going to the local Citroen dealership ! So £500 quid later i'm off to Citroen Aberdeen, one diagnostics later i'm told i need a new fuel pump, ( Now in fairness to my local garage they rekond that it may indeed be the fuel pump, but they would have had to charge me even if it turned out not to be )between labour, diagnostics and fuel pump i'm now another £700 quid lighter......but safe in the knowledge that the car is now fixed......Ahh isn't ignorance bliss ! Anyway 3 weeks later the car feels a bit hesitant on acceleration again, service light back on esp fault light, the famous anti pollution warning also and on the kangaroo petrol once again when accelerating. Books the car in again and i point out the previous months bill and diagnostics to be reassured that i wouldn't pay for diagnostics again.......( I must have mug painted on my forehead ) Anyway 2 days later and Citroen in their infinite wisdom have now decided that it could be one of 2 things....A) The coil pack & Spark plugs or :P The Catylitic converter......"But it would be cheaper to just change the spark plugs and Coil so i should go for that first but here's the catch.....It might still be the Cat"......I'll leave you to guess what my reply was ! And the sting in the tail, apparently because the fault codes are different i still have to pay the £120 quid for yes you guessed it diagnostics ! So in total for plugs, labour, coil pack and diagnostics another £400 quid....Unfortunately for me i've had enough and purely because of the totally abysmal after sales care from Citroen I will never buy another...... ;)

Well folks to get back to my original quote which started this debate, i have just been phoned by Citroen, Aberdeen and quoted another £250 on top of everything else for a new coil pack, spark plugs, labour and wait for it......Yes diagnostics yet again, wait a minute did i not just pay for diagnostics last month ! And that's still not guaranteed to sort my problems.....unfortunately i feel that i have had the misfortune of dealing with both Dealer & Indie that don't have a clue and if i now go ahead with this i am now in the space of 1 month the guts of £2000 out of pocket with a car that simply needs to die ! ;)

Well folks.....Not even a full month back on the road and yes you guessed it, ESP fault / Service light and anti pollution warnings again !!!!! Although no limp mode.....yet !.......Spookily looks very similar to the faults that resulted in a new fuel pump and £700 quid lighter in my pocket last month. Booked in for next week.....I wonder what the Citroen crystal ball will predict next ?
  21. Thanks Randombloke....I thought i might try blowing down the rear washer to see what happens ? Cheers, lawser
  22. Thanks, managed to get the plastic insert off, tested the washer....nothing ! Then listened for the pump as you suggested....pump sounds as though it's operating correctly ! I guess the next thing is to have a look at the pump ? Cheers, lawser
  23. Hi folks, Rear wiper washer has stopped working, wipes ok but can't get any water to flow ! Windscreen washers on front wash wipe ok, could it be the pump ? As i understand it it's just one pump for both ? Would this be a good time to buy that Haynes manual then ? cheers, lawser

Folks, Cars back on the road once again, fuel pump replaced, seems to be running well, although taking off in 2nd isn't as smooth as i'd like ! So in total £709 & i do agree about the pricing, when i picked up the car there was seagull crap all down one side but do they want to know ? The main thing is that the car is running fine now i guess ! Thanks for all the comments, lawser
