  1. I just caught the end of something on TV last night. The program is called watchdog and was about Citroen deciding to pick up the tab for "air rear suspension" failure on the relevant C4 models. Sorry I did not catch any further details as Tennis took priority in our home, I have only just remembered about it. Tim
  2. Am going to buy a manual before the event, rather than wait till I need it. My French is minimal where as my wife had a reasonable command of the language some years ago. Am I correct in thinking the RTA version is more informative that the Haynes, also as my C5 estate is the 2006 2000cc 136BHP model, which I think its referred to as the face lift model, which RTA do I buy? Thanks Tim
  3. Have not found the advert for my 2 litre but this is an ad by the same company for the 2.2 litre. They are Pocketrocketparts Unit 14 Loxdale Ind Est Northcott Road Bilston WV 14 0TP 01902 219395 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Citroen-c5-hdi-2-2-4hx-2002-2004-TR-PSA-F002-diesel-particulate-filter-dpf-138-/351076601150?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3AC5&hash=item51bdcbcd3e
  4. Sorry Paul.h i have only just noticed your reply, i will have another look on ebay for the details.
  5. Thanks for the help. Looks like a job to get sorted whist the good weather is here. Tim
  6. I must admit I have not looked at my C5 since buying it in Jan/Feb 2013 other than water/oil tyre pressure checks. I have been slightly disappointed in the ride comfort when compared to the previous Citroens. (GS/BX/Xantia) I finally got around to checking the Hydractive fluid level. With the vehicle on the level I lowered the suspension and removed the cap to find no fluid was showing above the bottom of the filler insert. In my defence I thought the on board computer would have let me know to top things up. I bought a litre of fluid from my local Citroen dealer (it was over £15 but they are just around the corner from me so very convenient) I expected to need to pour in a cup full to bring up the level but it took almost the full litre. The point of my post is that the ride has definitely improved so my worry about needing new spheres at 120K miles seems have groundless, but only to be replaced with the thought that I should have drained and refilled the system and not effectively wasted £15 :( I now remember Coastline posting up how new fluid improves the ride and am struggling to understand how new fluid actually improves the ride, a master class in fluid dynamics would be much appreciated. 7. Please feel free to move this post if its in wrong place. My 2006 2000cc C5 will achieve 120,000 miles later this year and the thought of DPF replacement caused me to look on ebay for DPF’s where I saw this one for less than a £100. Has any one had experience of these. Tim
  8. Thanks for your replies, since posting I remembered some one mentioning a digital volt meter connected into one of the accessory sockets as an indication of the battery condition. I may go down this route initially to give me an accurate reading of the battery condition. As the battery was new in April last year I am possibly unduly concerned. Tim
  9. My 2006 C5 2000cc diesel estate is not being used much at the moment, some times not for a few days. I am opening locking/unlocking the doors quite a few times a day so having accidentally come across my battery charger I am considering connecting it up. As computer based motoring is a new experience for me, and I do not want to inadvertently mess things up, I would like to know if simply connecting up the charger with the battery leads connected to the vehicle is ok. This may seem a basic question but I dont want to give the car electronocs a chance to go wrong. Thanks in advance. Tim
  10. If you are a member of the AA or RAC? If so they may feel that to assist you could improve their membership numbers. Tim
  11. Thanks to you all of you for the advice. I didn't twig the CW/CCW bit, which in hindsight was obvious. Am getting the service box from Easydiognostics as bedtime reading prior to dusting off the spanners. Tim
  12. Summer is coming and so am looking forward to getting a few jobs done on my 2006 C5 Estate. Re the previous Gents mention of CW & CCW, may I interpret this as passenger side-Right hand Thread, and drivers side-Left hand Thread. (for a right hand drive car I hasten to add) Tim
  13. Thanks for advice offered. The term “Good News-Bad News†came to mind as I type this, The good news is the alarm did not trigger so had a good nights sleep. The bad news is, that although the staff at Panasonic’s technical help line were able to help me access my CCTV cameras sim card memory, I as able to see that no person or cat were around my motor up to, during, and after the five seconds the alarm sounded. At the time I woke up I would have sworn the alarm went on for longer than five seconds. I think I am a very light sleeper. I did take note of Johns experience and so gave the tail gate a positive slam when I closed it last thing yesterday evening. Tim
  14. Perhaps a word with Radio 4's You and Yours programme or ask the AA/RAC for an opinion may help. Tim
  15. Are you able to disable this facility. Should you appear in Court for running back and trapping a pedestrian who walked between you and a following traffic on an incline, the Judge may not accept a plea of Insanity due to being a Citroen owner. (ment in jest) Tim
  16. An early start. My original equipment alarm went off at 0518 this morning. There is a family of petty criminals a few streets away who have tidied up some copper from bcky back garden in the past. Because my alarm has not triggered since I bought the motor in February 2013 I was too the window, had the bottom sash raised and was mentally selecting the heaviest flower pot to throw, all within 20 seconds of my being woken. I used the key to remotely turn on the lights as a way of seeing if some one was around the vehicle before venturing out, but the drive was empty. I went out with aerosol can of plus gas in one hand and keys in the other and the back garden was empty, non of the 2006 Estate doors showed signs of a jemmy attack, the locks were not scratched and the back door was definitely shut. I have set the alarm off in the past by not closing the tail gate correctly and lifting it having set the alarm. I have security cameras’ with 32GB sim cards which store the observed info on board but have yet to attain a sufficient ability to play back the saved information (I must ring Panasonic today). My question to fellow C5 owners is this. Could a cat jumping off a wall some four feet higher than the bonnet set off the alarm? As it has not happened before could this be something to look foreword to each morning? How does the alarm decide to sound off, could something like a brolly or a cardboard box falling off the parcel shelf set off the alarm? Thanks in advance for all suggestions. Tim
  17. I don't have any relevant information that would help, but, since buying my 2006 2000cc VTR have wondered if reducing the BHP would bring the torque lower down the rev band with an increase in economy and possible extending of engine life so will keep an eye on this thread. Tim
  18. Thanks for the feed back John, I will place Merlin Diesel on my list of useful contacts. Tim
  19. I have only just read your post. Will have a look over next few days. Tim
  20. Hello fellow members, I am a Citroen fan who having had a non turbo 1905cc BX estate then an turbo 1905 cc Xantia have progressed to a 2006 C5 estate, a one owner 1997cc VTR HDI, with six speed manual gear box. . I bought it with 103K on the clock with full service history in early 2013. After fourteen months and an additional 14K miles it looks as though the new front tyres fitted by the Gent I bought it from will need replacing soon and whist initially disappointed at the mileage realise this is par for the course going by what other forum users experience. Since acquiring this motor it has had a timing belt (and associated bits), a battery, clutch and dual mass fly wheel on it. When I bought the car it was a bit noisy at tick over and was slightly rough through the drive train at low revs. I have no previous experience of DMF’ however in hind sight I think these symptoms can be taken as a probable indication of impending Clutch/DMF failure and worth looking out for when trying out a potential purchase. Since the new clutch the vehicle pulls smoothly from 8/900 revs, something it could not do when I bought it. I do like the motor and hope to carry out improvements as time and money become available. Having looked round the forum I can see it’s a valuable resource for those who, like me, enjoy sorting out their own problems. Tim
