Thinking about it now Paul , I think the EML light only came on when the engine cut out , and not when the engine was running.

Thanks for the reply Paul .The engine management light did come on . one thing that I can't remember is when I turn the key in the ignition to let it do its checks ? and let the Heater Plugs warm up , all the lights to the right of the Speedo and Rev Counter go out and I think the EML orange light to the left also went out before starting the engine . After this fault , the right hand side lights go out as normal , but the EML stays on . I can't remember if it stayed on or went out with the others before starting !

Hi everyone just bought my Citroen Xsara 2.0 HDI 2002 as a work car that is replacing my trusty old 2000 1.9 D Xsara that has lasted me 7 years without much trouble. I've got a problem already with the replacement . It's got 92000 I think genuine miles on the clock with stamped up Service history up 75000 miles a couple of years ago . Drove it home 120 miles after buying it and it felt nice and tight and drove lovely , starting and stopping a few times on the way home . The blower has a problem , and only works on high speed occasionally , but when it does the Air Con and heating work OK . I have my own mechanics who said it sounds like it is the Multi plug which is an easy fix . Anyway , today I thought I'd give it a clean as it was parked up for quite a while and covered in Bird S..T !! The engine was left running on tick over for over half an hour with the Air Con on full , and when I finished I went to take it for a little spin . Within 50 yards the engine cut out , so pushed it home and it now just turns over without firing . About an hour later , it did fire but cut out again within a second !! Any ideas ? Thanks Rob
