Hi Very few people who remove the DPF actually remove all traces of it, Simply because the testing of the DPF may become a testable item for MOT. Having said that, some people have completely removed the dpf and in those cases, you would have to ring a reputable vehicle spares supplier with your registration and they will give you the info from the datatbase. If there are still remainders of the DPF system fitted then here's what to look for - Take a look at the exhaust silencer/ catalytic converter, if it appears to be constructed in two parts, a front small section and a rear longer section joined together by 4 bolts, then yes, it did originally have a DPF. Look under the floor of the car, put your head below the car at the rear nearside passenger door and look upwards at the floor, if you see a small plastic tank with stainless pipes running from it to the exhaust (though these pipes may have been removed and plugged, then that would indicate a DPF tank. Ring your local Citroen Dealer with the Registration number and they will tell you instantly. cheers

I have trouble taking any notice of pollution level problems caused by cars. Sorry, but I recently read that passenger aircraft (not including the military who are by far the largest polluters) drop something in the region of 750,000 tons of carbon every year. I note all of the attendee's at the world pollution meetings get their by flying and by being dropped to and from the airport by large limousines. I see large auto manufacturers such as VW taking a verbal bashing for getting caught and being fined a sum of money which may hurt the workforce but surely wont even be noticed by the shareholders. I see governments, like ours, spending trillions on nuclear armaments to be used as a last resort before they completely destroy all life on the planet and then telling us we have to curtail our pollution. The Yanks blowing the tops off the Appalachian Mountains to get at the coal beneath them, China building one coal fired power station (the equivalent of Drax) every month and yet the motorists are being led to believe that it is we who must change to stop the majority of pollution. I mean no disrespect to anyone but for me, the pollution fiasco is exactly that.

Far better to arrive at that decision now buddy, rather than after a few hundred quids worth of expense and nothing to show for it. Cheers

Sorry, slip of the pen,but you get the idea !

I dont think you will get a Pain Free conversion, you will also have to change the gearbox as I believe the ratio's will be far too low for a petrol engine. I am not sure how involved the ECU was on 1997 models, wouldn't think they were overly complicated, I would be looking at something like a Pug 306 or similar. You may have to also get the ECU from the donor vehicle and get someone to initialise it. (or maybe not) The exhaust would be different as would the fuel lines from the tank, you would need any electrical controls from the donor car such as MAF/MAP sensor and hope that the relay carries the same equipment otherwise you would also need the wiring loom. Just a few things to think about, hopefully it wont be that complicated but expect the worst with Pug/Cit and you wont get surprised cheers

I have had both the EGR and PF written out of my C8 ECU. The car runs far far better, better performance, more economical and no dashboard traffic lights flashing away like mad. Lets be honest, pumping burnt exhaust gas back through an engine that thrives on good clean oxygen is a ridiculous thing to do. Many of these gimmicks such as EGR and DPF probably show a considerable difference on a fairly new vehicle but on a worn engine the ECU is incapable of keeping up with the large fluctuations in adjustment needed to try to tune the engines within limits It will not be long before the UK government are offering diesel vehicles owners vast sums of money to scrap perfectly good cars, simply because they forced the manufacturers to concentrate on everything except NOX.. I do know that in the area of Cornwall where I live, at least 50% of the cars I get in for repair have their EGR's blanked. Of course the choice is up to the individual and how much trust you can put into the information given out by manufacturers an government, personally I dont trust either of them. Cheers

Yep, the top strut bearings are weak. Stand at the wheel of the car, reach across the top of the tyre an grab the spring, Pull it towards you and push it away from you. If the top bearing is gone you will hear it clunk clunking and see it wobbling about. Do both sides

A garage will charge you around about that price. The cost of th new cam belt kit The cost of repairs to the engine (New Valves etc) The cost of a new gasket set for the engine and then the labour You must remember that when buying any of the peugeot citroen range, you must ensure the cam belt has been changed, if it hasn't been changed and even if they say it has (without proof) then change it anyway. Do not leave it for the manufacturers recommended time frame, change it way before that. The C8 suffered from a dodgy engine top cover arrangement, the manufacturers brought out a engine top tray which diverted water away from the belt. Excess water was finding it's way onto the cam belt and in winter it was freezing to the belt which cause cracks and eventuall failure. Make sure our engine has the extra tray fitted, if not then get one fitted.

were the led's you bought "Can" corrected ?

Thats interesting to know and certainly something I would never have thought have, will watch out for that one. cheers Paul

Is that the same on earlier Pug/ Cit cars Paul ?

I see no reason why not.

Hi Woody Have you checked the Cam belt ? When the engine is turning over does it sound like it has compression or is the engine spinning over quite fast and feely ? With the engine stopped, see if you can remove the timing belt top cover and check if the Cam belt is still under tension or indeed, if it has snapped.

Yes they can be expensive, far better to rip the darn thing off alltogether and fit a normal flywheel and clutch, cheaper than buying a dmaf and clutch, less problematic and the car drives just as well if not better. every time I have to do one of my clutches, the DMF goes into the bin and a normal clutch is fitted. DMF was a great idea for heavy trucks with high horse power to take away the "Snatch" when pulling a heavy load, on normal passenger cars they are not needed, the shame is that if your vehicle is under warranty, your warranty is void if the DMF is removed.
-
Hi Buddy. The DMF is NOT always replaced when the clutch is done. The only reason they are saying that is that if they do the clutch and not the DMF and the DMF then subsequently develops a fault within 12 months, you would be taking it back stating it should have been changed at the same time as the clutch. The changing of the DMF is dependent on the miles it has done and the amount of rotational free play. I recently did a VW one and it had a ,maximum rotational freee movement of 19mm. Not sure what it might be on C8. It's easy to check, simply turn the DMF anti clockwise until you feel a resistance, but a mark on the DMF and the flywheel at the same point, then turn the DMF clockwise and put another mark on the flywheel when you feel resistance. The distance between the first and second mark on the flywheel is the amount of free play it has, the questions is, "What should the maximum be" ? cheers

Hi The MAF sensor you will find very close to your air filter, should look something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Air-flow-mass-meter-MAF-sensor-Citroen-C2-C3-xsara-peugeot-206-307-1-4-HDi-/370910848306?fits=Model%3AXsara&hash=item565c026532:m:mV_bvfcY3L5U8e23LBAko8w Cam shaft sensor will be found at end of camshaft and looks like this (if fitted) looks like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sensor-camshaft-position-FEBI-BILSTEIN-Citroen-Saxo-1-4-VTS-Electric-/191890989763?fits=Model%3AXsara%7CCars+Year%3A2002&hash=item2cad9822c3:g:lrMAAOSwQupXVujR however remember you will only see the mounting plate on the top and not the barrel part of it. cheers

Hi 1st - check the battery voltage, these engines are notorious for running badly on a bad or uncharged battery, they have to have FULL charge at all times, failure to do this will result in all sorts of strange diag codes. 2nd = Unplug the MAF sensor when the engine os running normally and make sure that the unplugging of the sonsort makes a difference to how the engine runs. No difference would suggest that the sensor is faulty. Also unplug the sensor when the engine is running badly and not the difference. 3rd = remove and clean both the Cam shaft sensor (if fitted), and the Crank Shaft sensor, Both of these sensors have a habit of collecting small particles of carbon and steel particles which reduces the needed space gap between sensor and component. Simply rubbing the end of the sensor on a clean rag can sometimes solve a lot of problems. The MAF senspr you will find close to the Air Filter, the cam shaft sensor if fitted will be at the end of the cam shaft and the crank sensor should be on top of the bell housing at the joint between bell housing and engine,

Citroen Relay 2013 Just Started Talking To Me
Rookie2 replied to Ken Gibbins's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
I have not got a clue unfortun ately, however, a quick search online for relay vans for sale, one advert contained the following "BLUETOOTH PHONE PREP, VOICE ACTIVATED MEDIA SYSTEM,". Could your have the same and knows when a toll charge is immininent ? -
You can fill the pat eolys yourself, there is no great skill involved just a little patience waiting for the fluid to fill the tank. You cab buy the filling kit with the fluid (EOLYS). Do NOT, repeat NOT get the fluid on you or your skin, it is carcenogenic so just use a bit of common sense. You have PM.

Hi and welcome to the forum. First you have to be aware that the whole of the Citro?Pug range are crityical in voltage, very ctirical. These vehicles can throw up all sorts of diagnostic faults simply because the battery is not capable of maintaining the charge. Believe me, a battery producing just 1/2 volt less than it should do will throw up a fault. I recommend that you fir a quality battery then try again. Then come baclk and let us know what the result is please.

Dispatch Holding Back On Power
Rookie2 replied to ravendmc's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
Hi, welcome to the forum, There are a number of reasons that the vehicle could be down on power so working thriugh them one at a time will help solve the problem as quickly as possible. My initial suspect would be the MAF sensor. You could try unplugging the MAF sensor and seeing if you could repeat the problem you had . You may get an early indication as the whether it is the Maf, if you unplug the MAF whilst the engine is running you should hear a change in the note of the engine, no change would suggest there might be a problem. So start the engine up, unplug the MAF, listen for the change in note and then go for a drive to see if the symptoms replicates. -
Just remember, if yours is the concentric clutch, it consists of two parts, the slave cylinder part of it which is inside the gearbox which, if leaking, requires the gearbox to be removed, and the master cylinder which may be fitted to the engine bulk head or inside the car above the clutch pedal, which may also be leaking. If you look at this kit you will see the slave in the middle of the photo http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LUK-REPSET-PRO-CLUTCH-KIT-CSC-FOR-CITROEN-RELAY-3-0-HDI-155-160-180-06-/152475514478?hash=item23803fb66e:g:2J8AAOSw4CFYy9yc cheers

Check to see if your vehicle has the concentric clutch, If it has, the slave cylinder will be fitted internaly in the bell housing. If it does have the concentric clutch, look for a small drip of oil on the bottom of the bell housing to engine joint. Just checked, it appears your vehicle does have the concentric clutch, it will be your clutch slave that needs changing but unfortunately this involves the gearbox removal. Unlike a normal clutch which has a slave cylinder on the outside of the gearbox bell housing, yours is fitted internally in the gearbox.
