Guest Minidudec3 Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 I have a Citroen C3 1.4 hdi lx which was never fitted with fog lights when it was manufactured. I really wanted fog lights on the front as It does get foggy in the evenings. I noticed when changing/removing the headlights that there is wires for a fog lights. As a result I bought two genuine fog lights from eBay. Today I fitted them on my C3 and low and behold they don't work!! Th rear fog lights still work but the front don't. I have checked the fuses which are all fine but there is nothing obvious to say why they don't work. Has anyone had this issue before?? Can anyone help??? Thanks Quote
paul.h Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Have you checked the fuse is in place ? In our C3 handbook it lists a separate fuse for the front foglights, under the bonnet fusebox, fuse F6, 15 amp. Also to use the front foglights, the first twist of the fog light switch does the fronts and the second does the rear. This may put a signal through the BSI (although Haynes does not show this, only a supply from a relay in the bonnet fusebox) to switch on the lights which might need a dealer visit to have it programmed but I am not sure. No, they dont normally tell you when they are not working, you have to suss that bit out for yourself :D :D :D :)  Getting back to being serious, Citroen seem to have the happy knack of making one wiring harness for a particular vehicle regardless of spec or trim but it doesn't neccesarily follow that if you connect something up to a blank connector it will work. For instance on my Berlingo Multispace, the connectors are present in the dash panels for extra speakers, I fitted two speakers and they worked !!! Messing about under the driver's seat and found two connectors, one is defo for the seat belt pre-tensioners but the other is connected to the seat squab which suggests it is ready equiped for heated seats, but no switches or wiring elswhere on the vehicle to connect to, still haven't sussed that one out yet. What I am getting at is that you may have to fit an extra switch or relay somewhere in the wiring to make the circuit complete, don't ask me where, I ain't got a clue. Not to put too fine a point on things, Citroen seem to spoil a good product with shite wiring and electricals. Good luck and let us know how you go on. Quote
Guest Minidudec3 Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 The fuses are all fine... Wiring all seems ok... I have noticed on the steering column I can only turn the fog light switch once towards the dials and then it is spring loaded so pops back... I then turn it once towards the steering wheel to switch them off... When I twist the fog light switch away the rear fog lights come on but not the front... I have tried twisting it away again but nothing changes... And then I twist it towards to turn off... Anyone with fog lights tell me how you turn your lights on and whether it's a mark 1 c3... Beginning to think I need a new steering wheel stalk now!! Quote
paul.h Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Our C3 is 2003 1.4sx petrol. The first twist of the fog light switch (which has 2 light symbols) puts on the front lights, it springs back, then a second twist in the same direction puts on the back light and it springs back. Twist opposite way to turn off each one in reverse order. It is the same on our C4 and C5. The light switch and wiper switch is part of the comms unit below the steering wheel so maybe you need a different one of these - I was told by the dealer these are over £100 when I was thinking of replacing the wiper switch but it is not sold separately. Depending on your car vin number and the accessories installed, there are a few different ones available. If you register on service.citroen.com you can look at the same parts diagrams as your dealer and see which bit you need but I suspect you will need to discuss with a dealer if nobody here has the solution. Guest Driblerlernot Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 bridge the pins on your reverse light switch, put the ignition on. if lights come on its your switch. int light not sure, does it only come on with the rear doors open? if so check the rear door switches and the wires hanging off em Quote
