Hi not sure if this is on the right wall ? But here goes ....

I have a c8 2.0 hdi that is smoking .... it will only smoke for the first 1/2 mile after it has been stood on tickover but then goes as if it was never there . Even on a long journey you will drive fine for ages stop on for 5 and then it will start again . The smoke smells of diesel/ oil and is gray .... I don't think its head gasket as I've seen that many times be for on other cars .... and its had a timing belt fitted to it in Jan just before I got it ?

Thanks to all who can help

Hi there,

Is the smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe at the rear of the vehicle or, does it appear to come from the front end, like from the particulate area and does it indeed have a particular filter fitted. Im no expert but I may can give you some pointers.

Thanks for your reply I've since found out the turbo seals have gone and it was putting oil in the exhaust so got a new turbo delivered today and having it fitted next Saturday.. I know the thing your saying is part of the heating system ... thanks to Citroën owners ...

Thanks again

I had a turbo fail on a petrol Saab, smoked on start up but only for a few seconds for about 6 months and then one day when leaving a motorway the car was surrounded by a cloud of smoke. Fortunately it did not break up and put lumps of metal into the engine but still expensive - new turbo, lambda sensor and catalyst. If I had done it sooner, as in your case, the costs and risks to the engine would have been lower.

Make sure any oil is drained out of the intercooler otherwise it will still smoke for some time.
