Guest ianang Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 How do you tell if the suspension is Hydractive 3 or Hydractive 3+ (2004 series 1 C5)? Mine has a 'sport' button behind the gear lever, but only says Hydractive under the bonnet. Thanks so much for answering my questions. Its much appreciated! Quote

Guest ukwide Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 sport button means it's Hydractive 3+ Hi Seefive, excuse the ignorance, so what's the difference between 3 and 3+? I have the C5 VTX+ 2.2 HDi auto on a 57 plate and that has the 'Sport' button between the raise and lower buttons, but unsure of the difference between the two versions. Cheers Gary Quote
paul.h Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 The sport button is supposed to make the suspension firmer. I use it when towing the caravan to stop the car rocking as much on uneven roads, if there are strong side winds so it does not roll as much and sometimes on bendy roads. Quote

Hi Paul, thanks for that, I understand what the sport button does by way of firming up the ride, my point is/was is that the only difference between 3 and 3+? Cheers Gary Quote

Cheers Gary Hi Gary, The Hydractive 3+ system has extra spheres to Hydractive 3 which makes 2 differences; firstly you have a sport button which switches out 2 spheres to give a firmer, more taut ride; secondly, you have an extra automatic feature: in addition to the suspension lowering the car by 15 cm at speed on a motorway and also raising the car by a similar amount on rough roads, the 3+ will automatically set sport mode when it detects a more sporty drive i.e harder acceleration, cornering, decceleration etc. 3+ is I believe only fitted to top engine c5s and to c6s. Enjoy your ride! Best wishes Bob H. C5 2.2HDi SX Mark 1 & C3 1.4iSX. Quote

Can I ask one more question, seeing as how you are knowledgable on these matters, would I feel or notice the ride reducing in height at speed on a m-way ie is it automatic or do I need to adjust the suspension? Have a great weekend Rgds Gary Quote

Have a great weekend Rgds Gary Hi Gary, My previous post should have said the suspension lowers by 15 mm not cms!! (brought up with feet and inches!). I have never noticed the lowering effect but when I'm driving on a country road and select sport, the suspension feels more like my old BX; switching back appears to iron out the bumps more. The lowering is automatic and is nothing to do with the suspension raising/lowering buttons. Best wishes, Bob H. Quote

Bob, I think I realised the slight mistake on mm -v- cms, but like you still work in feet and inches (the understandable scale). Thanks for answering the question so succinctly, am enjoying the car and the ride, so all is good so far. Have a good weekend. Gary Quote
