If you go for the Modutop get the Air Con as well, the rear windows hardly open so you will need the cool air in summer. I went for the Sunroof and love it, noisy over 40mph but great round town.

What's a Modutop? I am going to test drive a mulltispace but can't find any examples, pictures or information about the Modutop - Can someone explain what it is and does?

It's a roof module type thing similiar to overhead lockers in an Aircraft. You get the normal shelf above the driver's head that has also got a CD holder in it,it then links to the back with another shelf that links to two overhead lockers for the rear passengers and another overhead locker in the boot area, you also get glass sky lights(non-opening) and roofbarsThe rear passengers also get power points and extra air-vents.This is the best opic I could find

The Boys Are Back In Town!!

The modutop is brilliant if you have children .Kids love cubby holes, and as the rear passenger lockers have 12v supplies in each , a recent purchase of a portable DVD player has made for peaceful travel. Also the roof rails are standard , as is the modubox, rear seat trays , arm rests , CD player .As for the issue of aircon, well so far not missed not having it.Kids get plenty of cool air through the roof vents . Mercifully , we have never been stuck in seious traffic .One caution .Roof rattle .Even following repair following service, there is residual rattle around the CD storage , resolved with a bit of window insulating foam!!

Be seeing you!!!

Speaking of such things, our album is released on the 31st August. Do have a look at the website (URL as on signature) and join in our web forum which was started today:

To celebrate, I took a photo of the fabulous 'Lingo with SUNROOF OPEN outside the famous studios at Abbey Road... trouble is, I can't get it to upload.

Bah!

PS: Disappointed to see that the Green Dome is hollow and made of fibreglass these days!!

Never mind Mokes, they should have used Meharis if they were trying to be "kooky"

To keep on topic, go for the Modutop if you have kids. You can also keep your hat in the drivers cubbyhole. I'm with Steve that aircon is essential - certainly it's worth the extra in my book.

I don't think the Mehari was on sale in '67.......

So, ClareB!!

How did you get on with your test drive? Did you like the 'Lingo?
I was dismayed to see that Autocar (never one of the publications I rate that highly) listed the Berlingo with a 3* rating in their summary of every new car on the market, praising its abilities and handling, criticising its 'van-like appearance' (D'oh!!) and 'odd driving position'.

Don't know about you, but the upright 'dining-room-chair' driving position seems perfectly natural to me, and it's the enforced reclining that one needs to adopt in any other car that is actually unnatural........... It's actually pretty much the same driving position in a Citroen DS, which mus rate as the most comfortable car ever designed.

Did you find a Modutop? The Berlingo's unneccessarily pricier cousin, the Peugeot Partner is available with what is described as a 'Multi-Function-Roof' which is identical, and more of these are so equipped, so if you can't track down a Berlingo, sneak into your local Peugeot dealer as they're more likely to have one. I think it was standard on the Escapade and Quicksilver versions.

Don't actually BUY the Peugeot version though, it'll never be as good value as the Citroen, and inexplicably it actually depreciates faster than the Citroen! The Kangoo is the worst for depreciation of all of the van based MPVs. That's because to realise the advantage over the Citroen and Peugeot, you have to crash it.

Good luck!

Tron

But not with a 1.6 Petrol - although I am a Citroenist, there is a Peugeot dealer nearer to me so I popped in - they're even more bizarre in what combination of engine/trim & spec are allowed.

And why does BBC Top Gear magazine deride the Partner for looking awful and handling badly and praise the Berlingo for looking cool and handling OK-ish?........ i wouldn't buy the Pug version because I too prefer Citroens, but surely it's not THAT different?

Surely this proves the skittish nature of the motoring press. With the exception of Clarkson vs Vauxhaul, most of the motoring press play a clever juggling game of keeping manufacturers happy but not to the extent of complacency. No doubt launch events in some of the world's top spots help in this symbiant behaviour .

So ClareB, Berlingo or replacement Pluriel and a supply of goretex clothing ?And insist on an ABS model which should be standard as of July 1st .

Hmm..... A bit of a late addition for the Ripped-Off Brits is this.

ALL Berlingo Multispaces in France have had ABS as standard since the '03 facelift..... I note that we now get passenger airbag as std too... Same comments re France apply. The Pug Partner has had passenger airbags since the facelift in the UK. This doesn't account for the 3K price difference though surely!!

Hi back again, I've just caught up with thie topic again and see I have some comments to reply to. I liked the blingo and would have definatley gone with the sunroof options as an ex plurielist. The drivng position for me was good as I like to see the whole bonnet, the only downside was the rear seats which seemed a bit uncomfortable tome.

However, I felt I had to spend all the money I had on offer from Citroen for an exchange and make sure they allowed me to take advantage of the current cashback offers, so to make the best use of the money I have gone for a Picasso with sunroof. I know you lot won't like to hear that though!

It seems from reports on the forums that Blingo owners are the happiest of the Citroen customers, you certainly seem to be the most friendly. Thanks all for your help and comments.

"the only downside was the rear seats which seemed a bit uncomfortable to me. "
I'm usually in the driver's seat but my son and daughter who insisted on accompanying us to France last Easter for a few days (scroungers!! - they both professed to have forgotten their wallets!! ) said that the rear seats were very comfortable - even on a long journey and with excellent views.
I also agree with Tron - I like the more upright driving position

When it comes to being uncomfortable in the back, the wifes Picasso wins the day as the base of the seat is quite hard, one hour is enough for me so have a sore/numb rear end. (Or is that a different story).

Whereas the Berlingo is just fine, although you can't adjust the rake of the seat back.
