Hello C3 users,

I have a 2007 C3 1.4 HDi Cool which has the above problem. Switch on ignition and ABS lamp goes out. Start engine and after 3-4 seconds the ABS caption comes on with the centre console bleeping twice followed by the warning 'ABS faulty'. Thought it was the brakes being worn so changed front brake pads and discs and replaced brake fluid. Car has done about 33000 miles and has not had brakes changed before. This has made no difference to the state of the caption and there appears to be no problem with the brakes when driving. Does this need to go to a Citroen garage or can it be sorted by any garage? Is it safe to drive with the ABS caption on? I do not have enough money to pay for Citroen prices at the moment as was recently made redundant.

With abs brakes, they are meant to still work when the abs part is faulty but the abs will not function if needed. To find out what is wrong, the abs fault code will need to be read, a normal low cost engine code reader will not do this so if you are going to use a non Citroen garage, first ask if they can read the abs codes. Ideally a Nexia/Proxia (?) reader would be used although Sealey do a Citroen one which can read abs codes. I have seen posts that people on the frenchcar forum help each other in reading codes so something to have a look at (not tried it myself).

Clean the sensors on each wheel, washing them in situ is usually enough, be careful if you try to remove them as they break easily

I've cleaned them and caption has now cleared. Thank you for your help in this matter,
