Hi. I have recently had an MOT of which the car failed due to high emmisions. Although the exhaust is 11 months old the guy said the engine was not breathing and burning oil. The car has only done 75ooo mls could it possible that the rings have gone or could it be something else. All help appreciated before I get rid of it. It is T reg and a Citroen Saxo Eastcoast model. Thanks

Is the car using oil between services to confirm the MOT tester and if so, how much ? Other causes of high emissions are the need for servicing - dirty air filter, dirty throttle plate/body, blocked engine breather pipes, oil/filter change, old spark plugs, lambda sensor faulty, catalyst faulty, etc.
