First Citroen - How Do I Check The Mileage?

Hello I brought a Citroen car for the first time. It is a Citroen C4 SX hdi on a 55 plate.

Everything is electronic. How do I calculate the mileage of a journey?

Can I download the car manual from somewhere as when I brought it, it did not come with the manual?

Thank you.

Manuals for recent cars can be read/printed (mouse right button click) from the service.citroen.com website. If there is a button on the end of the wiper stalk, pressing this in will go through the pages of a trip computer if there is one - our 2003 C3 1.4 sx petrol does not have one.

Thank you Paul.h

I have been on the website you have suggested and it has taken me to this site automatically:

http://service.citroen.com/

On this site it says it is for "Motor trade repair professional" I am not in trade or repair.

It is also asking me for a username and passcode do I need to sign up to the site? Thank you.

Yes my one does.

I have just realised my time is wrong on the dashboard. I can get to the clock and date via the button on the wiper stalk, but I am unable to change anything, why?

Thank you in advance

To change date/time on our car there are 2 buttons at the sides of the display. Hold in the left one until it changes/starts flashing with english, change with the right button if needed, push left button to go to next one to change until date/time is set. Newer cars it might be done via the radio menu button as on our C4.

On the service citroen site, at the bottom on the log on page there is a link to the recent (from about 2007) car manuals without having to register. However, if you do register as a member of a car club (this one) which is allowed in the terms/conditions, you have access to the same parts diagrams as the dealers and you can also pay for additional information. Maintenance manuals can also be downloaded free. Manuals earlier than about 2007 do not seem to be available but there should not be much difference in the C3.

If you hold in the button on the end of the wiper stalk it will reset the trip values.

Sorry Paul.h my car is a C4 and the time is on the same panel which displays information for the radio so thus no buttons on sides of display as the display is all enclosed in the dashboard

Anyway tried to solve the issue myself by downloading manual but with no luck.

I tried to download the manual but the right-click download is saving as html and image (gif) file. I am sure it should safe as a pdf or document type. Anyway so tried to load the page at the bottom of my browser in the status bar it says done. However I have a red x and nothing appears on the webpage.

On our C4, the date/time is changed through the menu button on the radio. I thought it was a C3 (despite C4 in your post) since you have posted on the C3 subforum.

I have not been able to download the handbooks either, (only the maintenance manuals once registered), but can print pages using the mouse right click button and print. If you set the printer to 2 pages each sheet of A4 and double sided, it should not take too many sheets.

There is a French maintenance manual for the 1.6 petrol and 1.6 hdi, from the ETAI website or Amazon's French site. Similar to Haynes.

I pressed through the buttons - menu takes me through a diagnostic says "its on economy and switches off". How do I change the time via the radio?

Your website does not work for IE8 but works on Google Chrome.

As mentioned before not in the moter trade but what is ETAI website?

If you have not already guessed, on Citroens, if the radio/inside lights/doors open etc are left on and the engine is switched off, then after about 15 minutes the electrics are automatically turned off to prevent the battery going flat - Citroen call this economy mode. It is reset when the engine is started again. The 15 seems to vary between different cars but it does not seem to be adjustable. So, if any adjustments are being made then do them with the engine running or within 15 minutes of switching it off.

From our C4 handbook edition dated 03-2006, there are 2 types of display depending on the car model.

Display A has less info, to alter the date/time

- press menu button on radio

- above the OK button press the up/down arrow buttons to select sub-menu Display Adjustments (there are others for language and units)

- confirm with OK button

- use up/down arrow buttons to select what you wish to change, year, month etc

- change using left/right arrow buttons

- use up/down arrow buttons to select next item to change

- once complete, press OK button

Display B has more info and the up/down and left/right buttons appear to be interchangeable for making changes, to alter the date/time

- press menu button on radio

- use up/down arrow buttons to select Personalisation - Configuration

- confirm with OK button

- select the display configuration using up/down arrow buttons

- confirm with OK button

- select the date/time adjustment using up/down buttons

- confirm with OK button

- select value to change using up/down buttons

- confirm with OK button

- adjust using left/right buttons and confirm with OK button

- once complete confirm with OK button.

ETAI is the French company who make manuals similar to Haynes but in French. They call their manuals Revue Technique Automobile. They cover the most common cars used in France. Language is French but with a dictionary (or google translation) are easy to follow and have good line drawings and photos. Cost including delivery is about 36 euros. The C4 manual is number 697 and covers the 1.6 hdi and 1.6 petrol models.

Paul.h I have the first display so thus Display A. Thank you for your help as now I have the correct British Summer time.

My initial problem, checking a mileage of a journey has not been solved.

My C4 near the windscreen there is an electronic display which has the speedometer quite large then it says 74543 miles near the top right hand corner.

However on the radio panel in large font in the middle of the display it says 6214 miles, what does this mean?

Anyway if I press the button on the stalk for the windscreen wipers on the first press it has lollipop picture ..car picture -- > drawing of petrol pump then underneath 44.1 mpg

If I press the stalk again we have a picture of a car --> and 23 mph underneath

If I press the stalk again it gives date

If I press the stalk again it has the picture of petrol fill then -- -- -- mpg

How can I check the individual mileage as if I press the middle button on the stalk it loops back to the first press?

The following should help:

The mileage on the near windscreen display is the total miles done by the car on the right and also on the left there is also trip miles which is reset by the left button just below the display. The middle button here can be used to adjust the display brightness if the car lights are on.

The display on the radio panel shows

- instantaneous fuel consumption mpg when the car is moving, other wise shows ---- (petrol pump symbol),

- trip miles (lollipop and car picture),

- average fuel consumption mpg (lollipop, car and petrol pump picture),

- average speed mph of the trip (car picture only).

To reset these to zero for next trip, just hold in the button on the end of the wiper stalk. The trip distance only goes up to 10000 km which is about 6214 miles and then it does not go higher or back to zero. So it looks as if your trip data has not been reset so any values you have are not correct.

If you have not found it, there is a popular C4 forum, C4owners.org which is worth a look. The C4 subforum here tends not to be used much.
