Guest moor1e Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 HI GUYS, NEW TO THE SITE. I PURCHASED A 2005 C5 2.0 HDI VTR TODAY. GREAT TO DRIVE BUT ONE PROBLEM, GARAGE HAD PUT HALF A TANK OF FUEL IN IT FOR ME ON COLLECTION. HAVING READ UP ON THESE CARS B4 I BOUGHT IT I HACD READ WITH A FULL TANK THE CAR COULD DO OVER 800 MILES MMMMMMMMMMMMM. NOW WITH HALF A TANK OF FUEL I CHECKED THE FUEL REMAINING ON COMPUTER AND IT SAYS 181 MILES, SURLEY THIS IS WRONG AND SHOULD BE STATING ABOUT 400 ODD MILES IF IT IS HALF A TANK......... ANY IDEAS FOLKS WHAT COULD BE COZING THIS OH BY THE WAY HI TO ALL AT SITE CHEERS Quote
coastline taxis Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Ooooooooo this is going to open a can of worms. 800 miles of a full tank. never getting that yet and weve got estates,saloons,petrol,diesels,110bhp and 90bhp Quote
mlkey Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 It calculates based on previous and current driving.. When I got my latest C5 it was offering me about 350 on a tank of petrol. After a few miles it realised my driving style was different, and the range was increasing as I drove. Now when I fill up, it suggests around 600 miles on a tank. If you drives some economical journeys, it will catch up and offer you a respectable range on the computer. Just seeing Coastline's response above, I could not resist.. I commute 100 miles a day and used to have a 110. I once got 908 miles on a tank (was trying for 1000), but that was driving at 50mph on the motorways and dual carriageways. Normal driving (60mph ish) I used to get around 700, but it was almost all motorway and dual carriageway. Now driving a petrol 2.0L and still managing 41mpg (over 500 miles per tank), so pretty happy :) Hope that helps. Quote
Johndouglas Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Can you be sure the tank was half full? Because the needle points to half it doesn't necessarily mean it's half full. My 2ltr C5 has two extremes of fuel economy. If I start with a cold engine and drive the mostly uphill 8 miles to the M25, I'm lucky if I get 30mpg. But once on the motorway, at a steady 65, I get 50mpg. A drive down to Dover with cruise set at 55mph can give me 60mpg. Quote

I TRAVEL ROUND TRIP OF 85 MILES TO WORK, HAS A SCENIC 1.5 DIESEL THAT I TRADED IN FOR THIS AND GOT 60 TO THE GALLON, HOPEFULLY MY ROUND TRIP OF MOTORWAY AND A SMALL TOWN TO GO THRU GETS ME ABOVE THE 50 MARK THEN I WILL B HAPPY Quote
Guest ukwide Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Hi Moor1e, Firstly, can you turn off your CAPs Lock, capital letters are classed as shouting on a board. Secondly, your fuel consumption will also be affected by the fuel you use, Supermarket fuel tends to be cheaper by a couple of pence, but I get no where near the range I do with Shell or Esso! Lastly, it might be better if you set your Journey Computer to display the average mpg - overall and do it long term, I can get mine up to 45-47 mpg (2.2 hdi 173 bhp auto) but over the last 5000 miles I've actually averaged 38mpg, which is a better indicator of consumption. Interestingly I once brimmed the tank on my 55 plate 407 Hdi and did Salisbury to Edinburgh and return without filling up, cruised at a steady 65-70, listening to the radio with climate control engaged and window slightly open for fresh air, so well chuffed and I made it to work the next day before thinking about filling the tank. It depends on the mileage of the car, the distance you travel, how you brake, accelerate, weather conditions, wind etc, etc, etc. Enjoy the car but don't expect miracles (if you do, then buy a Smart for2) Quote
