Lindsay75 Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 Have fitted a witter tow bar to 2002 (52) C5 saloon and gone to put electrics in and not bought any special kit or anything just connecting wire together - oops though - dur - connected two brake light wires together thinking they needed to go to the towbar together and now the right hand side rear light cluster isn't working properly - th eonly thing that is still working is the indicator - anyone know what i need to do to get it working again - it's not the bulbs cos I have checked them and everything else seems to be working fine!!cheers, Lindsay Quote
Johndouglas Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 With multiplexed wiring systems, it's safer to use a seven way relay. Power is taken directly from the battery, with each bulb only sending a signal to the relay. I've just finished wiring my C5 estate in this way. Start by checking your fuses. Quote
lindsay Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 have checked all fuses under bonnet - are there any others that I should know about - why oh why can't haynes do a bloody manual for the C5!! have bought a repair manual on CD from e-bay but hasn't arrived yet! A bit confused on the multiplexed wiring front because my towbar (witter) didn't suggest I needed a relay in order to wire it up - sold with a normal wiring kit - so do I really need a relay or anything like that?cheers, lindsay Quote
kfk Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 You need the Z21 electrical kit as listed on Witter Suggest you double check with them first. Quote
Johndouglas Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 I met with the same confusion when I bought my towbar. Some 'experts' said I didn't need relays, others said because it was multiplexed, I did. In the end, since the C5 is multiplexed, I went with the relay suggestion - and since I've fitted it, I've towed 2500miles with all lights and equipment working correctly. Quote
lindsay Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 I checked the witter site and I have the c28 tow bar which needs the electrical accessory kit Z22 - this doesn't have a relay. Has anyone out there wired up their C5 without a relay???????? cheers, Lindsay Quote
kfk Posted April 17, 2006 Posted April 17, 2006 You need a relay.........unless you want to do permenant damage to the main computor in your car.......I know because i work for a main dealer! Quote

lindsay Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 KFK's bloomin great - just a little bit of common sense - he pointed me in the right direction - would've helped if I'd had an owners manual - must get one!!!! Quote
