milpol1 Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 OK shot in the dark this but here goes.................Had my discs and pads changed on all 4 wheels, now prior to this there were no noticable rattles at all. Anyway now have an infuriating "tinny" rattle coming from the rear, and i believe it may be coming from rear right wheel. Its not there all the time just when I go over roughish surface, now if i keep my foot on the brakes the rattle aint there which to me means there is something rattling from the brakes( No ***oops*** sherlock), ive looked under the car and at the wheel, brakes, calipers but nothing......any ideas chaps? mechcanico lee Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 You have diagnosed it yourself really , take the wheel off and have a look, do the pads have spring retainers or some kind of spring device that holds the pads secure , its the pads or the pins rattling round in the caliper ,pressing the brake slightly is pinching them and stopping the rattle. paul.h Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Something to check - on the rear calipers there is a metal cover over the pads held on by a long bolt that also holds the pads in place - maybe this is loose although its bolt holes are slots so if loose it most likely would fall off. There are also cases of corrosion on the caliper where this bolt goes through so there is nothing holding the bolt in place. Could also be the back plate has not been tightened up if it has been removed to allow the disc to be changed (I vaguely remember this when changing the rear discs). Quote
