MJE Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Hi all, wonder if you can help me with a problem I have had for some time now.Car is C5 2.2 Hdi exclusive estate (Manual)when I put my foot down nothing happens for about 5 seconds then it picks up no problem, put it in cruise control and it will only keep at the speed while on the flat, as soon as a small incline it slows down and I have to plant my foot on the gas to get the speed back to cruise speed, I have replaced the MAF hoping that may be the cause but no.I tow a caravan and it will be a major problem if I can't get it fixed. MJE is the engine management light on in your car if so you need the codes read first to find out what the problem is, where abouts are you in the country. Quote
mechcanico lee Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 What woody says and ....... big lag before picking up could be stuck open egr valve , can you hear any hissing ? intercoolers prone for leaking at the bottom of the core , does it black smoke alot when you put your foot down ? Quote
MJE Posted February 26, 2012 Author Posted February 26, 2012 Hi, there is no smoke or very little. and no management lights on, if I was to look at the egr valve where would I find it ? thanks for your comments. Quote
DaveHerns Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 I'm going to suggest you get it plugged in and the fault codes read Then let us know Quote
DaveHerns Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Sorry -hadn't read other replies but seems we all agree Quote
GooglyBear Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 My 2003 HDi 2.0 has suffered a similar problem in recent weeks, although the lag isn't quite so long. I have also noticed a flat spot between 2200-2500RPM, that only seems to arise when going uphill. My mechanic mate checked my EGR valve and found it to be clean.Last night while climbing quite a steep hill with 4 passengers, it struggled badly. I have noticed that (with instant MPG on display) it doesn't seem to use as much fuel as it probably should, considering my right foot was to the floor, giving rise to the notion it may be fuel starvation. My mate has offered to bring his laptop around to check for faults. Where does it plug in? Quote
myglaren Posted August 4, 2012 Posted August 4, 2012 My estate got badly damaged and I bought a hatch to replace it. The estate was generally rather sluggish but the hatch was seriously limp.I gave the estate to a mechanic mate in exchange for work to be done on the hatch. Last week he replaced the rear discs, callipers, pads etc and fixed the loose driver's seat on the hatch and MOTd it. He had it back the day before yesterday and I used the estate. He'd cleaned the MAF and turbo pipes and it went better than ever before. Like a different car. He has given it a service, new oil and all filters, fresh gearbox oil, cleaned out the boost pipes, engine temperature sensor and tightened up the throttle cable which has made an incredible difference, accelerates really well and top speed is way up (struggled to get to 90 previously).Still needs injector 2 refurbishing which will be done next week along with a couple of other minor jobs and a timing belt/water pump change as I have no idea of when that was last done - car has 182,000 miles on it. A lot of contributory factors crippling performance. Perhaps there is no single thing affecting yours. As the MAF has been replaced it may pay you to check the throttle cable adjustment which in my case was severely limiting performance. The throttle pot and stepper motor can also give similar problems. Stu63 Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Yes I know this is dam near a year old but..... I had the same thing in mine, I got it mapped, went ok, but still a bit slow on initial pick up....put a new maf on, back to normal, probably if I'd put one on first, I might not have bothered getting the map, but what the hell, I've now got 145ish hp from 110...and my god you know it....and even in that size. Yes I know also that that's the basic amout most diesels get now and alot more, but for a 10yr old C5 hdi, it's transformed it. Just the boat like handling to sort out.....well try more to the point Quote
