patt Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Hi folks, Could anyone tell me what that iron weight on top of my gearbox is for? It is pivoted on the top surface and linked to one of the gearshift levers to provide inertia when changing gears. I've had many suggestions but would like a definitive answer, as it seems to me a bad thing. Thanks hopefully! Quote
paul.h Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 The parts diagrams call it a control weight but I could not find anything to say what it is for. Quote
patt Posted March 15, 2012 Author Posted March 15, 2012 The parts diagrams call it a control weight but I could not find anything to say what it is for. Thanks Paul.I've not met this idea before and it does dampen the usual gearbox feel and give the lever some "weight". Citroen must have thought it was what people wanted as they (and other cars in the group) have this. The Saxo did not, nor any other cars I can recall. All I can say is that it feels better without it and unless I find a compelling argument for it, I will not be re fitting it. I did hear about a broken selector fork in a C3 and in my view this weight could have contributed. Quote
