Dircon Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 I have recently purchased a 2001 C5 Exclusive SE V6 Auto.I have just noticed that the Dashboard Oil Level Indicator is showing a line of Flashing --------.The Car's Manual illustrates this Display as also showing the words Min and Max. However, I just see the Oil Symbol and the Flashing line of Dashes. The Dip Stick is tricky to read but, the level seems to be ok.I have heard that the Flashing Dashes are used for both Under & Over Filled. However, the Manual seems to indicate that the Flashing means a problem with the Gauge. How serious would an overfill be?Any ideas?Any info' appreciated.Paul Quote
paul.h Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 The handbook for our C3 on shows the oil level range as max OOOOOO, min ------, and ------ without any words as a malfunction. So you likely have a fault if the oil dipstick level is between max and min. There have been some reports in recent Car Mechanics magazine of diesels not stopping, possibly due to a high oil level and the oil being sucked in to the engine as fuel - switching off the ignition stops the diesel supply but not the oil so the engine can keep running. I think the oil level sensor is the same as the oil temperature sensor so you could check its wiring connector is clean and not damaged. It is located at the side of the oil filter and is held to the engine block with a self tapping screw, possibly 10mm AF. paul.h Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 High oil level could also lead to oil seal leaks on petrol or diesel engines, happened to a relative's car every time it went for a service but stopped when he started to do his own oil changes. Quote
Dircon Posted March 6, 2013 Author Posted March 6, 2013 Update:When I took my car to my dealer, he informed me that my C5 had an incorrect Dipstick. The correct one is being fitted today. If the car is overfilled the dealer will drain the excess off. I hope that after that, the Digital Readout will work OK. Many thanks, Paul Quote
Dircon Posted March 6, 2013 Author Posted March 6, 2013 When the New Dipstick arrived, it was found to be the same as that with the car. Dealer error! Anyway, the car was overfilled. Therefore, some Oil was drained off and the LCD Oil Level Display was Reset. Problem fixed. Regards, Paul Quote
