Hi guys,

My 2007  C3 Pluriel brake lights have stopped working can anyone tell me if the brakes lights are fused as i cant find one in the fuse box, or do you think it might be the braking pedal switch??

cheers for any advice :)

The Haynes manual for the C3 shows 2 fuses in the glovebox, 20 and 21. One does the high level light and one side and the other does the other light. Your handbook should list the fuses though.

Obviously check the bulbs have not blown first. The brake light switch is in the passenger footwell and is the right hand switch on the brake crossover shaft - if at fault, try pushing the plunger to see if the lights then work and if so, it may need adjusting by pulling out the plunger.

thanks for the info paul thats just what i needed :) in my owners hand book there is no 20 and 21 fuse will check when the mrs comes back from work with it

i,ve had a c2 and a c3 now and always found the back light bulbs alway blow for a past time, on the c3 the same back light bulbs keep going, wondering weather its a fault on the c2 and c3's ??

checked all the fuses and no luck the brake lights still dont work and now we just found out the main beam lights dont work, put a metre on them and theres no power going to them both, any ideas paul?? anyone??

The front headlights take separate feeds to each main and to each dip beam from the engine fusebox so hard to guess how this could be connected with the brake lights - worth checking these bulbs have not blown. We have a 2003 1.4 petrol C3 and the bulbs that seem to go a lot are the no. plate and left front dip beam. Is everything else electrical working and all the other lights ?

Maybe one last resort could be to disconnect/reconnect the battery in case of a management system error (BSI). If you do, switch off everything, remove the key, open the bonnet and then wait several minutes for everything to shutdown. Then disconnect battery, wait a few mins, reconnect, wait a few mins, put key in ignition, wait a few mins, turn key to first position, wait, turn to light up dash, wait, start engine, reset clock, wind windows down and up to reset anti pinch. Then, if lucky, the problem may have gone.

hi paul,

yeh mate the side lights and rear lights and high beam lights all work ok, i,m wonder with the brake lights if the pedal switch has gone? a mate put a metre in the main beam plugs to see if there was power going to the plug and theres no power going to them

Maybe the front lights are a fault with the light switch which is part of the comms unit behind the steering wheel - a dealer would be able to confirm this. Just to clear up some confusion, high beam and main beam - which of these is the dip beam ? Also could be the relay in the engine fuse box, except it is shared with the main and dip beam lights so if at fault, likely none of these would work.

You could unplug the brake switch and put a wire across the connector to see if the rear brake lights come on (the ignition needs to be on for them to work). Then you would know if it was the switch.

hi paul seems like i,m told its the comms 2000 unit or how i would word it is the light stalk, but the stalk is complete unit with all the other stalks like the wirpers.

any ideas as where to get one apart from the main citroen dealers? or if you know anywhere that fixes them or does an exchange that may also be an option

cheers for any help :)

You might get a second hand one from such as ebay or a scrap yard. There is a post on the C5 forum and ones for a C5 second hand are about £20.

Just had a look on ebay under C3 and this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CITROEN-C2-C3-COM-2000-UNIT-LIGHT-SWITCH-COMM-/181116137369?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2a2b5cef99 company say they have ones available for other Citroens so may be worth a try. I would not want to pay £280 for a new one unless your dealer confirms that is the problem.

If you do not know the Citroen part no. (usually 4 nos. and 2 letters, the long part nos. in the adds are the manufacturer nos. and you would need to look at your part to get this) this can be found by registering on service.citroen.com as other professional, citroen owners club and against your vin you can see the relevant parts diagrams.
