dave&trace Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 anyone know what type of bulb is fitted to the HID headlights the handbook says it`s a xenon D1S but someone was selling replacements a while back on this site and there`s were D2R ? Quote
kfk Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 Its funny that the handbook says D1S....did you disbelieve it? What is the difference between D1S and D2S bulbs? H.I.D. D1S lamps are the so called third generation design. They have the igniter electronics/housing integrated with the bulb eliminating the need for transporting high tension spikes (up to 20 KV) from the electronic ballast unit whereas in the D2S lamps, the igniter is part of the ballast. The result of this improvement is that EMI is greatly reduced and therefore the risk for radio frequency noise and interference to other avionics is minimized with the third generation D1S lamps. Also, ballast to lamp wire length can be up to 10 feet long (approx 12" is typical for D2S lamps). D1S HID Bulb - The Type you need D2S HID Bulb Quote
ham's c4vts Posted June 11, 2006 Posted June 11, 2006 i had a pair replaced under warranty, one went after a month, took it to dealer and said at frist they wouldnt replace bulbs under warranty, but as the car was only a month old they did. has yours gone? Quote
dave&trace Posted June 11, 2006 Author Posted June 11, 2006 no our bulbs have not gone thanks for the reply it has helped alot we are very concerned about our bulbs as we are travelling to Europe and we need a spare bulb, although the hand book says not to fit them but you need one by law has anyone else come across this and what have they done?spoken to citroen about beam deflectors they say our car does not need them as the head lights are directional and have a flat beam light. ham's c4vts Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 ok, as we are planning to go to france october time. thats a real pain the if you got to get one of those bulbs and fit it. hopefully KFK could shed some light (excuse the pun) Quote
wozza Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Not sure how difficult they are to fit on the C4 but i remember on the Clio it involved front bumper coming off then the removal of the headlights etc not something you can really do without knowing what your doing. Seems a bit stupid they force people to carry round bulbs that are that expensive and ones they could not fit themselves most of the time anyways. Quote
kfk Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 A spare bulb kit will not avoid a fine if you are travelling with faulty lights, but replacing a bulb on the spot may avoid the cost and inconvenience of a garage call out. On some cars it is inadvisable or indeed impossible for anyone other than a qualified technician to change a headlamp bulb or lamp unit eg high-intensity discharge (HID) lamps, so carrying spare bulbs is not an option. However, carry spare bulbs for any lights which can be easily and/or safely changed. Quote
citroeneddie Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 Kfk Change a headlamp bulb? I don't know how to open the bonnet :D I know, I'd better look in the manual. :) Quote
ham's c4vts Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 thanks kfk for that, had been told a while ago that they cant be fitted without correct tools Quote
wozza Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 KFK is it a bumper off job on the C4 as well to change the bulb? Quote
kfk Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 KFK is it a bumper off job on the C4 as well to change the bulb? Well the labour time code book says it includes bumper replacement, so unless someone finds an easier/quicker way......yes the bumper does need to be removed Quote
Johndouglas Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 I've been a bit concerned about this because my C5 has Xenon bulbs and I'm shortly driving to Spain where traffic regs state that a bulb kit must carried in the car. But 1) bulbs are £150 a throw and 2) the handbook says its a dealer job to replace them. French traffic law only recommends carrying spare bulbs. Quote
hertsnminds Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 So if you carry spare bulbs you are within the law. If the law says you must change them there and then you might be in trouble, but you can then show the police officer the page in the handbook that states you are not allowed to change them. You can also point out that the car you are driving has been certified in all EU countries as complying with their safety standards (all cars have to pass these before they can be sold). It would be an interesting test case to be fined for not changing a bulb the manufacturer states you are not allowed to. IanBlack 55 VTR+ Quote
