billynibbles Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 As the steerable Xenons come under the category of 'non user serviceable', where do we stand legally when driving in countries that insist you carry a set of spare bulbs by law? Somebody told me you can 'hire' a spare Xenon bulb (from the AA maybe?) so if you find you've lost a headlight, you can go to the nearest garage and get them to change it, just in case they haven't got any in stock. Is that so? I notice that the handbook recommends that you change both at once, but then, I guess they would, wouldn't they. Quote
Johndouglas Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 I've been travelling to Spain for several winters and have always carried a full spare bulb kit both for car and caravan. For the past year I've been driving the C5 with xenons. I'm going to carry the normal headlight bulbs and just plead ignorance. I'm told that xenons are very long-life. Quote
kfk Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 A spare bulb kit will not avoid a fine if you are travelling with faulty lights, but replacing a bulb on the spot may avoid the cost and inconvenience of a garage call out. On some cars it is inadvisable or indeed impossible for anyone other than a qualified technician to change a headlamp bulb or lamp unit eg high-intensity discharge (HID) lamps, so carrying spare bulbs is not an option. However, carry spare bulbs for any lights which can be easily and/or safely changed. Quote
