Hi all

I hope someone can help me with a problem I have with my C5. It's a 2.2L Diesel Exclusive, 52 plate, which I've had for a year and a half.

The problem is that at any time, the whole dashboard console will cut out (the the dashboard needles stop where they were when the fault occurred, and the temperature and radio displays go blank), and so will the radiator fans (so when it happens, I can't get into traffic or the engine will overheat), fuse 24 blows. The problem could be related to the air-con as, when we were driving, my girlfriend's foot got covered in freezing cold water which came from the the top of the footwell.

If the car is left overnight, the fuse can usually be changed ok, and the car will run ok for a few minutes until the problem happens again. If I then replace the fuse and use only eco, it does better, but cuts out after a couple of days' driving. I don't know if it will last longer on eco after changing the fuse again.

The problem usually happens when I'm driving, but has happened twice when it's been parked; and it usually happens when the weather's warm.

I'm sure I've read on another post somewhere that you have to make some holes in a pipe somewhere so the car can drain the water properly, but can't find it again. Does that make sense?

My mechanic has tried draining the water from the air-con system (?) and the car ran for much longer before the problem happened again. I want to be able to give him some suggestions so it can be fixed with out him do an exhaustive and expensive investigation.

Any ideas would be very welcome.

Thanks

Unsure, think so. All I know for definite is ofwhat has been done with the aircon. Since the initail post, the fuse has blown again between the time I left the car and came back to it!

I put a note on the Questions page on the location of the air con Water drain, it is in the driver's footwell and found by removing the left hand plastic cover at the side of the clutch pedal (needs a small torx bit screwdriver to remove a screw hidden by the next cover along which needs bending back).

Until you check if the drain is clear I would not have the air con on to stop the water condensation. Use the ECON button so it is lit up.

Thanks for the comments so far guys. I'll check out the note and the drain and see what I can find. I'm starting to think it's not the aircon as I've had the car on econ for a week or so and had to change the fuse 3 times.

Answer to a previous reply - the ecu has been checked and the only code in it was to say that the fuse had blown.
