myke Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 I have read in the past of critiscism of the Berlingos braking system. I have an 04 1.9 Forte and feel that the braking feel is not consistent. At times it feels when I am braking that the brakes are not working quite as effectively and I have to push the peddle harder, a bit off-putting when you are in traffic. Has anyone else experienced this? Quote
tronboy Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 In all honesty, yes the brakes can be worrying at times. Non ABS early shape cars have better brakes in my experience. Quote
DaveWeller Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 Are your brakes binding? The Lucas pads can stick in the carrier, mine needed filing down to work properly. A simple DIY job. RegardsDave Quote
tronboy Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 Not sure. They've always been crap. Do you mean binding in the 'off' position, ie not pushing hard enough onto the discs? I'll get them checked. Cheers! TronX Quote
myke Posted September 4, 2006 Author Posted September 4, 2006 I know that both the front and back brakes had a tendency to squeaI. I removed the front pads, cleaned them up and applied copper slip to the back of the pads. Improved them a bit but I havnt done the back shoes yet. Interested in the comment about the front pads binding in the off position. Perhaps working them in and out with some WD40 around the piston may help? I shall try when I have a mo. Quote

Has anyone else experienced this? The brakes were totally crap on my '04 1.6 forte berlingo too. The brake pedal locked up on two occasions and I couldn't press it down! I no longer have that car and was glad to see the back of it. Anyone else experienced the same? Quote
kfk Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 The brakes on my Multispace are more than adequate, but then i dont have the need to rush everywhere, and i do try to anticipate the other idiots on the road. Quote
