bordercars Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 High milage diesel c5 10100 miles ex company car bought this car 3 months ago, when purchased it had stood for 3 months ( in manchester ) after running for about 500 miles i started getting a squeak from the rear, mechanic friend had a look and there seemed to be a lot of dry joints, treated with spray grease, this eased this problem , then started getting a metalic knock not all the time but when going over a bump it was if there was so movement and a metal part was hitting metal no sign of anything, so kept an eye on it. Yesterday had another look on and decieded to remove the rear wheels for an inspection around the discs, had the car set at full height and engine on tickover, after about 5 mins we saw what can only be described as smoke or steam coming from under the hood and around the offside wing, the wing was hot as was the hydralic resovouir, engine off remove cover and look in resovoir, it's empty, got a gallon of fluid and it took about 1/2 of it, when pressing the raise/lower button the front which had already lowered stayed put at normal height, but the rear stayed in the air. there are and have been no signs of leaking fluid at any time, so where has it gone also is there anything to be done ie; bleeding to lowe the rear, i just hope the pump is not burnt out, any ideas please Quote
Johndouglas Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 got a gallon of fluid and it took about 1/2 of it, Hope the fluid was pink and not green?????????? Quote
bordercars Posted September 1, 2006 Author Posted September 1, 2006 it was orange'ee suppose that could be called pink. Quote
kfk Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Orange - hopefully it had 'LDS' written on the bottle. Level for the C5 is checked with the vehicle in normal ride height and the level is roughly the same as the seam that runs round the tank.......they do look empty. The last one we had in overheated the suspension pump and melted the wiring to it aswell.......sounds expensive. Quote
bordercars Posted September 2, 2006 Author Posted September 2, 2006 was LDS.my main problem at the moment is getting the rear to lower as it is locked at full height, the front looks to be at normal ride height, someone said about the leveling device locking at the rear any suggestions on that please Quote
iannez Posted September 16, 2006 Posted September 16, 2006 the lds level is set when in low and you have a seized hight adjuster. Quote
bordercars Posted September 16, 2006 Author Posted September 16, 2006 iannez what steps should i take to rectify this. Quote
iannez Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 the hight adjuster is a little black box with a arm coming out and is connected to the anti roll bar and axle. it is quite easy to change. but would recomend doing it on a four post lift. if you try to adjust it on the floor it could drop the rear of car and squash you. not a good idea to get under a c5. replace box and loosen collar on anti roll bar (moving collar will adjust hight of rear) set car in normal driving hight and move collar untill car sits level then tighten collar. you will understand better when you see it. it is just off centre (to the drivers side) of the axle. cant stress enough how dangerous it is to crawl under a c5 so be carefull Quote
