scimitargtc Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 well well - year old purchased from dealer - just spotted today corrosion the size of a 50p under the paint on the bonnet on the leading edge at the 'V' checking along the bonnet there are several more rust bubbles under the paint - in the under side of the bonnet edge where the metal is folded the paint on the edge is flaking off along the entire length --- this corrosion apart from being totally unacceptable has only become visible within the last 2 week, so a call to the dealer Monday to invoke the paint warranty - anyone else having issues or have I bought a lemon...... paul.h Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 The bonnet on our 2011 C4 seems to be aluminium, a magnet does not stick to it (just tried), like our C5. The paint is ok with no problems so there is clearly something wrong in your case - should not be any rust, maybe not primed properly, maybe a bad respray for some reason - check the rest of the car just in case. scimitargtc Posted May 13, 2013 Author Posted May 13, 2013 been over her with a fine toothcomb - only the bonnet affected - back edge also has severe corrosion - Evans Halshaw booked in for Wed to review submit claim to CUK so wait and see Quote
scimitargtc Posted May 15, 2013 Author Posted May 15, 2013 Been to EH's bodyshop today - not fazed at all - had a 2 year old in last week holed from the inside - seems an issue with ali outer (did the magnet test) and what I'll assume is a mild steel inner pressing new bonnet needed --- apparently Citroen 18 months ago painted - as returns came in within 12 months now replacing with a new bonnet.... wifey not impressed so anyone fancies a 2012 1.6 HDi VTR+ egs 6 speed auto once the bonnet is replaced she's up for sale (car not wife!) at a loss of £3k in 6 months - not impressed and so sad that Citroen have lost a customer - ex Xsara Hdi 182k and C3 HDi Quote
paul.h Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Was it Landrover/Range Rover that had a problem with aluminium panels on steel frames and lots of corrosion many years ago ? Due to the same problem - galvanic corrosion due to dissimilar metals, also occurs on the rear brake calipers on C5s to 2008 and other Citroens so they should be wise to this. I will have to check our C4 and C5 bonnets now and add it to the common problems list. Quote
scimitargtc Posted May 16, 2013 Author Posted May 16, 2013 yup you got it in 1 -- RR P38A ali outer steel inner = chemical reaction aka 'not good' so it seems that weight saving is actually cocking up overall quality despite some 30+ years experience by manufacturers Quote
david1961 Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Got the same problem on my 2011 C4 too but as I've done 84k miles the claim has been rejected by Citroen Quote
paul.h Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Welcome to the forum. In your warranty book is there a mileage limit on the paint warranty ? In the book that came with our 2011 C4 it only says 3 years for a private vehicle and no mention of miles. Quote
