Hi.

Just got a C5 2003 2.0 110 hdi. its the faclift model.

Its a great car, been very well looked after and has 75k on the clock all services are up to date and came with all recipts and history.

There are however a few things that are not quite right and/or im not sure how the thing works.

1. how to alighn headlights.

2. how to use the button/screen to do with tripometer and options.

3. airbag/child saftey seat fault.

the main niggle is the diped beam headlamp alignment. it seems that the left light is poitning to a few feet in front of the car and the other is heading to the right as if tring to look around a bend? High beam is fine.

I see from the forum there are different types of headlight. some are automatic? is there a way to tell which I have?

if automatic, a maual i have found says i can enable/disable using the multifuntion display? is this the center lcd screen?

There is an LCD screen in the middle of the dash that gives tripometer readings when i press the button on the wiper stick, options can be switch on/off with a 5 second press.

this scrolls through to overspead and then a Check? and i have at one time had it say "programming".

but it was all trial and error because the Handbook that came with the car shows an older dash. how did i get to programming and what does it do?

is there a set of instructions or menu anywhere for downloading?

another issue is i get a child seat active warning, even though i have turned the key to switch the airbag back on. this is followed by airbag fault.

can anyone suggest what might be causing this.

many thanks in advance to anyone who can shed light on any of these issues.

Steve

Favourite for the headlight alignment is that the bulbs are not seating, I recently went a week dazzling everyone on dip, turned out the bulbs were not seated, check it first, might be a quick fix.

Hello

If your car is from 2003, it is not a facelift/mk2 - these started in Sept 2004.

Is the LCD screen backlight green or orange? Need to establish that before working through your questions.

I've had a Mk 1 (years ago) and currently a Mk2, so should be able to help

The child seat warning is correct - as you've turned it on, it's warning you not to carry a child in the front.

The air bag fault on the switch, if the airbag warning light is coming on and staying on - I vaguely remember something like this possibly on a C3. I think the switch needed removing and refitting since its connector pins had bent and may have needed a new switch. Could be worth a look but it may be best to do it with the battery disconnected or at least say 15 mins after removing the key from the ignition and opening the door so the bsi has shut down. Failing that, if the light is staying on, it may need plugging in for a diagnostic check.

The mark 2 facelift 2.0 hdi also had 138hp and not 110hp but nothing wrong with that - you will get better fuel economy and will not have an exhaust particle filter to worry about.

The overspeed/check/programming were on our last C5 and I do not remember using them in 6 years, so what ever they do they were not of use, just annoying having to scroll through them when using the stalk button to see mpg/miles etc. Overspeed may have been to set a speed at which a warning was given eg 70 mph so if you go over you get a beep.

The Haynes manual for the C5 is worth buying, it shows the headlight aim adjuster screw is on the back of the light unit in the middle. It seems a bit odd they would both be out so far since it would not possibly go through an MOT, so as suggested, check the bulbs are fitted properly.

many thanks for getting back to me.

ive managed to find instructions for the middle screen (it has a green back). there are no settings for headlamps in there, but there are some settings (auto switch on. close windows if it rains etc.) which can be done via the engine control socket (ask your dealer during servce).

the only issues left are the airbag warning/child saftey seat (this comes on regardless of the switch position) so i will check the switch itself when i get a moment.

i will also check the bulb seatings as sugested as soon as i can find a way to reach them and will keep you up to date.

all the best and thanks again
