KingsleyB Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Hi all. A question regarding the EGS gearbox. When you park the car, switch off and apply the handbrake, and leave the selector in "N". Then I presume that the gearbox is in neutral and it is only the handbrake that holds the car staionary. Now, if you do the same thing but, you put the gearselector in "A" or "R" as it is essentially a manual gearbox, would the gearbox also assist to hold the car stationary? I suppose one could find out by doing so and trying to push it, with the handbrake released, of course. Or stopping on a hill and seeing if it rolls away. I realise that the clutch is not engaged when you stop with the engine running but what happens after the engine is switched off? Is the gearbox locked into gear if the selector is left in "A" or "R"? What do the technical exoperts have to say? Quote
paul.h Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Just had a look at a handbook for a C4 Picasso and on the egs gearbox and stopping the vehicle, it says to put the gearbox selector to A or R or M before stopping the engine and it will leave a gear engaged and the vehicle then can not be moved - so this must be the same as a manual gearbox and leaving it in gear but the clutch must also be engaged. The handbooks can be seen on the service.citroen site under documentation de bord and then select your language and car. Quote
KingsleyB Posted November 10, 2013 Author Posted November 10, 2013 Hi,Thanks for that. I never thought of looking in the car's handbook about that. I just presumed that as there is no park position on the selector that there was nothing but the handbrake. Just goes to show. I need to wake up a bit. Now am a bit wiser thanks to a forum member/moderator. Much appreciated. Quote
paul.h Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 I never thought of looking in the car's handbook-------------------------------- I usually assume people do not have the handbook since sometimes when you buy a used car the handbooks are missing. So having them for recent cars on the service.citroen site is useful, plus it helps when trying to help people on the forum, or when considering buying a car.As an ex B747 and A340 driver, I can imagine the handbooks for these being rather long and there being a temptation not to use them all the time.
