jase_d31 Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Hi All I am new to the forum and would like to say hello! I bought a second hand Xsara Enterprise today and there are a couple of issues which I hope you can help me with as I have very little knowledge of such things! Firstly, the steering wheel has a wobble when the car is turning... it is more noticeable when turning right but seems fine when going straight. Secondly, The heater blower only works when I select position 4 on the switch....that's on both sides, fresh air or recirculation. Lastly, there is a knocking noise that seems to be coming from the front left side when going over bumps. Any help you guys could give me will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jason Quote
paul.h Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Welcome to the forum. Steering wheel - could be play in the steering such as the track rod ends. Check though the steering wheel position lever (if it has one) is fully located and the wheel bolts are not loose.Heater blower - this could be the blower speed resistor pack needs replacing.Knocking noise - could be an anti roll bar drop link needs replacing - the ball joints at the ends of the links wear and this is quite common on most cars. The first and last problems would be picked up in an MOT - see if there are any warnings listed on the last certificate. You can also see them on-line on a direct gov site on MOT certificates. If there is a Haynes manual then it would be worthwhile getting if you intend to do your own repairs. Quote
jase_d31 Posted December 1, 2013 Author Posted December 1, 2013 I should have pointed out that it just passed an MOT a couple of days ago Quote
paul.h Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Was the MOT by the same garage that sold you the car or was it a private sale ?If the MOT garage is local, maybe you could ask them if they noticed the problems with the steering and knocking and if so what they could be. Quote
jase_d31 Posted December 2, 2013 Author Posted December 2, 2013 I'm in Northern Ireland Paul... the MOT system over here is different, there are regional MOT centres where you have to go to get your car MOT'd, they are not garages, they just have a conveyer belt type system where cars just queue up all day in lanes at one end and shuttle through one at a time and get spat out the back end either with a MOT or not! I will call the people I bought it from and see if there were any advisories! The thing with the steering wheel is the oddest thing, it is not a constant wobble, its more like going over a bump, like the wheel is egg shaped! Quote
